TerraMaster Launches New D2-320 External Storage with 10Gbps USB 3.2 Interface
TerraMaster has announced an upgraded version of its D2 direct-attached storage line – the D2-320. This new 2-bay external drive enclosure promises greatly increased transfer speeds along with a refreshed design.
- High Speed: The D2-320 hard drive enclosure adopts USB 3.2 Gen2 protocol for high-speed data transmission up to 10Gbps. With 2 hard drives in RAID 0, the read/write speed can reach up to 521MB/s (SATA III HDD 8TB x 2). With 2 SSD’s in RAID 0, the read speed can reach 1075MB/s (SATA III 1TB SSD x 2).
- Multiple RAIDs supported: The D2-320 is a hardware RAID enclosure and it supports RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD and SINGLE which can better satisfy various demands of users. In RAID 1, data will be in a mirror backup. When there is a damaged hard drive, you can directly replace the hard drive, and the data will be recovered automatically. This provides an absolute security for the data.
- Super-large Storage Space: The D2-320 USB storage enclosure can support up to two 3.5" and 2.5" SATA HDD, as well as 2.5" SATA SSD, with a maximum capacity of 22TB per drive, providing users with up to 44TB (22TB x 2) of storage space.
- Better Heat Dissipation: The D2-320 HDD enclosure has an intelligent temperature-controlled and low-noise fan that automatically adjusts its speed based on the temperature of the hard disk. This feature ensures that the hard disk operates at its best temperature and provides better heat dissipation.
- Convenient to swap hard drives: The D2-320 external hard drive enclosure features a tool-free hard drive tray design that allows for easy installation and removal of hard drives without the need for any tools. Furthermore, the D2-320 incorporates a brand new Push-lock unique design from TerraMaster, which automatically locks the hard drive tray when you insert the hard drive, preventing the hard drive from falling out or disconnecting.
Faster Speeds with USB 3.2 Gen 2
The key upgrade on the D2-320 is the shift to a 10 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, doubling the bandwidth available versus the previous USB 3.1 Gen 1 interface on prior D2 models like the D2-310. Real-world testing by TerraMaster shows peak transfer rates up to 810 MB/s read and 521 MB/s write when populated with fast solid-state drives in a RAID 0 array. This makes the D2-320 well-suited for tasks like video editing from raw footage where high sustained speeds are necessary.
The USB-C port on the D2-320 provides broad compatibility with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems and can connect to USB 3.2, USB 3.1, USB 3.0, and Thunderbolt 3 ports. TerraMaster also states that the drive will work with the upcoming USB4 and Thunderbolt 4 standards.
Refined Design for Easy Drive Access
In addition to the faster interface, TerraMaster has revamped the design of the D2 series. The new models feature rounded edges and a push-button lock mechanism for installing 3.5″ hard drives without any tools required. TerraMaster claims drive installation takes under 10 seconds. The simplified internal layout focuses on noise reduction as well, with sound dampening materials that lower noise output to 19 dB idle.
Up to 44TB Capacity
Like prior models, the D2-320 has two drive bays and supports RAID 0 and 1, along with JBOD and individual drive modes. With today’s largest off-the-shelf hard drives topping out at 22TB, the total possible capacity comes to 44TB. Of course, users can opt for lower capacity drives to reduce cost.
TerraMaster specially calls out that the D2-320 works well as a storage expansion option for their TNAS network-attached storage devices. Users can add the drive as an independent storage pool or as external storage mapped as individual drives.
Launched Alongside New 4-Bay and 6-Bay Models
The D2-320 launches alongside the new 4-bay D4-320 and 6-bay D6-320 models that share the same USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface and design updates. The extra bays allow for additional capacity, redundancy, and performance.

All three of the new 320 series models are available now direct from TerraMaster and Amazon in the United States and Europe. UK pricing is set at £145/$1170 for the D2-320 and £300 for the D6-320. Specific details and pricing for the D4-320 in the UK market are still to be announced. The older slower D4-300 currently retails for £0150.
