Today, HONOR has announced the launch of its latest tablet, the HONOR Pad 9. This new device packs an array of high-end features into a slim and lightweight body, making it a compelling option in the mid-range tablet market.

Immersive 12.1-inch Display with Eye Protection

The key highlight of the HONOR Pad 9 is its 12.1-inch 2.5K display, which HONOR refers to as a “FullView” design due to its high 88% screen-to-body ratio[1]. With a crisp resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and support for 1.07 billion colors, the company promises “breathtaking detail and true-to-life colors” for an immersive entertainment experience.

The display also sports a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz, enabling smooth scrolling and animations in supported apps. According to HONOR, this helps balance performance and battery life depending on usage.

Eye comfort is another major focus, as the tablet incorporates TÜV Rheinland-certified low blue light and flicker-free technologies to reduce strain during prolonged viewing. Features like Dynamic Dimming and Circadian Night Display automatically adjust brightness and color temperature based on ambient conditions.

Eight-Speaker Sound System with HONOR Histen Tuning

Audio gets a major boost on the HONOR Pad 9 thanks to its eight-speaker setup – with two woofers placed at the bottom to deliver more powerful bass and surround sound effects. The speakers are tuned with HONOR’s proprietary Histen technology for 360-degree audio.

There is also a bidirectional vocal enhancement feature to improve clarity during voice and video calls by suppressing background noise. According to HONOR, this produces more accurate sound reproduction for human voices.

Flagship-Level Performance with Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 Platform

Under the hood, the tablet is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset based on a 4nm process. This brings a 35% graphics boost and 40% higher CPU efficiency over the previous generation.

The HONOR Pad 9 comes equipped with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. It also utilizes HONOR’s RAM Turbo technology to leverage unused storage as virtual RAM, effectively expanding system memory to 16GB.

Long Battery Life and 35W Fast Charging

Despite its slim form factor, HONOR has managed to fit an 8,300 mAh battery into the Pad 9. This delivers up to 15 hours of video playback or music streaming on a single charge. When you do need to top up, the included 35W charger can rapidly charge the device in just over an hour.

MagicOS 7.2 Software with Cross-Device Functionality

On the software front, the tablet runs HONOR’s custom MagicOS 7.2 interface based on Android 13. This brings shared notifications, calls, and apps across paired HONOR devices.

Special features like HONOR Notes let you easily bookmark web content for offline reading later. There is also expanded multi-screen collaboration for remote work and learning use cases.

Premium Design in a Compact 6.9mm Body

Despite all its advanced capabilities, HONOR emphasizes the Pad 9 still delivers on portability thanks to its 6.9mm thickness and 555g weight. The aluminum alloy unibody with frosted glass finish gives it a refined, high-end look as well.

The tablet will be available in a Space Grey color option. Shoppers can choose between a standalone tablet for £299.99 or a bundle with a Bluetooth keyboard for £349.99. Both variants are set to launch on February 25th via HiHonor and major UK retailers.

Positive Reception Expected in Competitive Market

The mid-range tablet market has seen rising competition lately, with Apple’s base iPad holding steady dominance but Android rivals like Samsung and Lenovo offering more affordable alternatives with premium features. The HONOR Pad 9 aims to disrupt this landscape even further.

I have had the tablet for the past week and have been impressed with it so far. I expect the review will be live toward the end of next week after MWC.
