I am in the process of reviewing the OPPO Find X5 Pro, just like its predecessor, it is one of the most expensive and best phones of the year.
With premium-priced flagship phones, one of the main selling points is the camera. It is the main thing that I have used to justify my increasingly expensive phones.
I travel a lot (or used to) and like to take photos. I am not a particularly keen or good photographer. I just want good photos with minimum effort to remember all the places I have been. I don’t particularly want to be carrying around a mirrorless camera or even a compact.
My current main phone is the Pixel 6. I was going to keep the Pixel 6 Pro, but at the time I reviewed it, it seemed excessive to be spending that much just for the excellent 48MP 4x optical lens when the prospect of travel was still looking poor for this year.
OPPO Find X5 Pro Camera Specification vs other BBK electronics brands
- Rear Camera:
- 50 MP Sony IMX766, f/1.7, 25mm (wide), 1/1.56″, 1.0µm, multi-directional PDAF, OIS (3-axis sensor-shift, 2-axis lens-shift)
- 13 MP, f/2.4, 52mm (telephoto), 1/3.4″, 2x optical zoom, PDAF
- 50 MP Sony IMX766, f/2.2, 15mm, 110˚ (ultrawide), 1/1.56″, 1.0µm, multi-directional PDAF
- Hasselblad Colour Calibration
- Front Camera:
- 32 MP, f/2.4, 21mm (wide), 1/2.74″, 0.8µm
The Sony IMX766 is an amazing camera sensor and one of the best on the market. But, it is worth noting that this is the same spec as the OPPO Find X3 Pro. The only difference is the new Hasselblad colour calibration.
The Sony IMX766 has also been used on much more affordable phones such as the Realme GT2 Pro and OnePlus Nord 2. It is therefore starting to feel a little less impressive than it once was.
The camera spec is also incredibly close to the OnePlus 10 Pro. They have a fractionally different Sony IMX789 main sensor, and the ultra-wide is identical. The zoom lens is lower resolution but higher zoom. Both phones are calibrated by Hasselblad.
Wide Angle Photos
Low Light / Night Time Photos
The OPPO Find X5 Pro camera is much the same as last years phone but with a little refinement. Both are exceptional cameras, and this is one of the best phones on the market for its camera.
With only a couple of Android phones on the market that are over £1k, if photography was important to me, I think I’d go with the OPPO Find X5 Pro over the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
However, competition is fierce. The Pixel 6 Pro is probably the best cheaper alternative for its camera.
I think the Realme GT2 Pro is a surprise contender as an alternative. The Sony IMX766 does a great job on the standard Realme GT2, you then have that 150˚ ultrawide which should create some impressive shots.
You also have the Xiaomi 12 Pro and soon to be launched Honor Magic4 Pro. Both phones, based on hardware alone, should provide equal if not better all-round performance.
