Ugreen Diginest Cube Review – 65W PD USB-C and 3 socket 1.8m extension lead

In recent months I have reviewed the Ugreen Nexode 140W and Nexode 200W, and since Amazon kicked a bunch of brands off the site, Ugreen has been my go-to brand for charging accessories. They are good quality and tend to be a bit cheaper than the Anker equivalents.

The Ugreen Diginest Cube is an appealing product as there are not many, or any, good alternatives on Amazon.

Design / Build Quality

I like the design of this, but it is not perfect.

I live in an old house, and we have had the plug sockets relocated off the skirting. They sit just above the skirting with not much clearance, and the cable from this extension lead it thick and inflexible, making it difficult to plug in properly with many of my sockets.

This is not an uncommon problem with modern electronics and old homes, and the thick power cable is justified as it is classed as heavy-duty and capable of 13A.  

I overcame the problem by using a smart plug I had spare to extend the plug away from the wall. It is not an ideal solution, though.

The power switch on the lead feels a bit cheap and soft to press. It has not caused any problems yet, but I imagine that it is very easy to catch and switch off the sockets.

In-Use

To test the USB-C, I plugged it into my EcoFlow RIVER 2 MAX, which can accept a 100W USB-C power delivery input, and provides feedback on how fast it is charging. This confirmed the Diginest Cube was able to achieve 65W charging.

I have also been using it every day with my Huawei MateBook 14 for charging. This uses a 65W plug but rarely pulls that much, and the Diginest has worked perfectly for this.

The AC output can handle 2990W Max with 13A. I have not been able to test that, but I was able to charge my EcoFlow DELTA 2 without a problem, and this can draw 1200W.

Price and Alternative Options

The Ugreen Diginest Cube has an RRP of £69.99, and at the time of writing, it is discounted to £58 on Amazon. It regularly drops down to as low as £56.

There is the DigiNest Pro priced at £120 RRP but with a 20% off voucher available. This has two sockets plus three UBC-C and one USB-A. This can do 100W on a  single port or 65W & 30W when using two of the USB-C ports.

They also have a more affordable 30W model at around £25 that has two sockets, two USB-A and a single 30W USB-C port.

Anker has some similar products, but these are currently only for US sockets:

• The Anker 727 Charging Station is $95, and has 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports, and 2 AC outlets allow. The USB-C can provide up to 100W.
• There is the Anker 647 Charging Station for $99 which has 6 AC outlets, 2 built-in retractable USB-C cables, 1 USB-C port, and 1 USB-A port, and this can provide 60W and 100W total USB PD.
• There is the Anker 615 USB Power Strip for $70, which has two USB-C, one USB-A and two AC. The USB-C can do up to 65W.

For the UK, there are plenty of extension leads that have USB, but none that really compete with the Ugreen Diginest Cube, and they are all from random brands.

You have cheap options such as the JSVER Cube Extension Lead for around £15, which is a similar design to the Ugreen, but it only has USB-A ports limited to just 12W.

The AUOPLUS 5 Way Wall Mounted Power Strip for around £26 is a bit of a bulky design, but you get five sockets, then three USB-A and one USB-C, which is capable of 20W PD.

The KOOSLA PD Tower Extension Lead is the best alternative option at around £60. Again it is a bit bulky, but this gives you twelve sockets, then three USB-A and two USB-C. The USB-C ports are limited to 45W+20W.

Overall

The Ugreen Diginest Cube is excellent for my needs. It is useful for both my office, keeping all my devices powered. It has then been ideal for my couch, allowing me to charge my laptop, phone and give my access to sockets which would normally be hidden behind the couch.
