The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G is the latest mid-range smartphone from Infinix, packing in an impressive array of features and specifications at an affordable price point. With a large 6.78-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, 108MP main camera, 100W fast charging, and the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset, this phone aims to deliver flagship-level performance and experience without the premium price tag.

Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G vs Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G – What’s the difference?

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G is essentially the same as the non-plus version but has 12GB of RAM vs 8GB, different colours, and the battery and charging speeds are different from the Pro.

The Plus model has a 4600mAh battery with 100W wired charging that’s capable of 50% charge in 12 mins.

The normal model has a larger 5000mAh battery but 45W

Both phones are listed as having magnetic wireless charging, which Infinix has branded MagCharge. However, it isn’t actually the phone that is magnetic; it is the case they have included in the packaging.

As much as I would have liked the phone itself to by magnetic, I think it is great that Infinix have included a MagCharge/MagSafe case and magnetic charger with the phone.

Design and Display

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G features a large 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2436 pixels. The screen has a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1300 nits, making it great for outdoor visibility.

With minimal bezels and a screen-to-body ratio of 89.8%, the display is immersive and engaging for consuming multimedia content. The 1B colour depth and high contrast ratio of 10,000,000:1 enables the screen to produce vivid colours and deep blacks.

The phone has a sleek design with a glass back and an aluminium frame. It is available in two colours – Obsidian Black and Vintage Green.

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G has a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 108MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, PDAF autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS). This allows the phone to capture high resolution photos with good detail and low light performance.

The main camera is accompanied by two 2MP sensors, although their purpose is unclear. Infinix claims the phone can do 3x lossless zoom, so these additional sensors may aid with that capability.

For selfies, there is a 32MP front-facing camera. The phone’s camera app comes with a host of shooting modes and features like Super Night, Portrait Mode, Sky Shop filters, Dual Video for vlogging, and a Vlog Clipper for easy video editing.

Even though you have very limited shooting modes, the 1x and 3x photo quality is superb for such an affordable phone.

Performance and Benchmarks

Powering the Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G is the 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset, which is designed for 5G connectivity and efficient performance. The octa-core CPU has 2x Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.

This is paired with 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The phone can utilise up to an additional 12GB of idle storage as virtual RAM, allowing for up to 24GB of total RAM for demanding tasks.

To keep thermals in check, the Note 40 Pro Plus 5G uses a third-generation vapour chamber cooling system that is 30% larger than previous generations. It has 11 layers of heat dissipation materials and an AI monitoring system to optimise cooling based on the workload.

Day-to-day performance is excellent; I have noticed no issues with lagging, the UI is fast and responsive, and apps all load up quickly. The camera also doesn’t appear to have any shutter lag.

As far as benchmarks go, I had a few issues. I was not able to complete the standard Antutu benchmark, but I was able to run the lite version. The result was quite poor at 458,520.

I was also not able to run the 3DMark Wildlife benchmark as the phone doesn’t support the required Vulcan features. It was able to run Sling Shot and Sling Shot Extreme, and this achieved a result of 2900 and just 132 for the Exctreme OpenGL ES 3.1 benchmark.

I was able to run Geekbench, and I achieved a 915 / 2258 result.

The Geekbench results are OK; the single-core result is not far off the MediaTek Dimensity 8020, but the multi-core result is around 32% lower. It is the gaming benchmarks that are poor. I haven’t run Sling Shot benchmarks in years, but the Helio G90T achieved 2377 in Sling Shot Extreme OpenGL.

While the benchmarks are not particularly favourable, the phone still performs well. I just wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who has demanding requirements or is a gaming phone as the PowerVR IMG BXM-8-256 GPU is not as good as Mali GPUs.

Battery

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G packs a 4600mAh battery, which is a bit smaller than the 5000mAh cell in the regular Note 40 Pro 5G. However, it makes up for it with significantly faster 100W wired charging support.

I found that with the low-powered chipset and decent battery capacity, I was easily able to get through a full day of moderate to heavy usage. I didn’t game on the phone much but I did use it for a lot of photography.

Using the included 100W charger and cable, the phone can go from 0 to 50% charge in just 12 minutes. There are multiple charging modes available: Hyper Mode, which is the quickest top-up; Low-Temp Mode, which keeps the phone cool; and Smart Mode, which balances speed and temperature.

I am a big fan of fast charging, it is something I use a lot when travelling as I can charge up my phone fully in the limited downtime I have when I go back to my hotel during the day and before I go out in the evening.

The phone also supports 20W wireless MagCharge, a magnetic wireless charging system similar to Apple’s MagSafe. Infinix bundles a MagCharge case, charging pad and power bank in the box. The power bank can snap onto the back of the phone to charge it wirelessly on the go.

Additionally, the Note 40 Pro Plus 5G can be used to reverse charge other devices at up to 10W speeds wired or 5W wirelessly. Some other useful charging features include bypass charging to keep the phone cool while gaming, extreme cold weather charging down to -20°C, smart overnight charging that optimises battery health, and universal USB-PD charging.

Android 14 and XOS 14

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G runs XOS 14 based on Android 14 out of the box. Infinix promises two years of Android version upgrades and three years of security updates for this device.

XOS 14 brings a refreshed UI design, new customisation options, and a host of features. Some highlights include:

• Folax AI voice assistant for generating content
• AskAI for summarising text from webpages or apps
• AI Wallpaper Generator to create personalised wallpapers
• AI Gallery with Smart Search for finding photos by voice
• Game Mode with bypass charging and frame rate control
• Social Turbo for replying to messages in a floating window
• Lightning Multi-Window for quickly launching apps in split screen

While the phone does have some bloatware, it is considerably better than many other phones from affordable brands.

Price and Availability

As usual for Infinix, this is not getting a UK launch or any EU country.

At the time of writing (10th of April), Infinix will launch the Note 40 Pro 5G series in India on April 12.

The Infinix Note 40 Pro 5G and Infinix Note 40 Pro+ 5G are expected to be priced around Rs 24,000  (£227/$288) and Rs 26,000 (£246/$312), respectively.

Overall

The Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G is an impressively specced phone for its price. It ticks a lot of boxes in terms of display quality, performance, cameras, fast charging, and extra features.

The 120Hz AMOLED screen is great for media consumption and gaming. The Dimensity 7020 chip provides solid everyday performance and 5G connectivity, but I wouldn’t recommend it for gaming. The 108MP main camera with OIS is very capable for the price, even if the secondary sensors seem like an afterthought.

Overall, if you can purchase the Infinix Note 40 Pro Plus 5G in your region, it offers very good value as an affordable phone with flagship-like features in certain areas. The lack of wider availability is unfortunate, but Infinix seems to be gradually expanding to more markets with each new release.
