If you are a power user spending more time working from your mobile than a laptop, then the monstrous 7.2 inch Huawei Mate 20 X (5G) might just be for you.

The none 5G variant has been out for quite a while now, but the 5G model has finally landed in the UK, coming in at £999 SIM-free from Carphone Warehouse, Three and Sky Mobile.

This is essentially the same phone as the original Huawei Mate 20 X, just with a Balong 5000 5G modem inside. The modem does mean that the phone has had to reduce the battery from 5000 mAh to 4200 mAh.

While similar in spec to the superb Huawei Mate 20 Pro I reviewed towards the end of last year there are some notable differences. Obviously, the screen size is (literally) the big one going up from 6.39 inches to 7.2 inches but this actually has a lower resolution screen of 1080 x 2244 pixels.

The rear cameras are the same with 40MP + 20MP + 8MP but there got rid of the depth-sensing front lens allowing the phone to have a small dewdrop notch.

This, of course, comes with the flagship Kirin 980 chipset and you get plenty of storage and memory with 8GB of RAM & 256GB of storage.

As this is more a phablet than phone there is a Huawei M-Pen which allows you to scribble directly from the lock screen on the Memo app. The M-Pen’s 4096 high-level pressure sensitivity provides a feeling of natural penmanship.

While the Three 5G network isn’t live yet they have a great offer for the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G. £79 upfront then £30.50 PCM for unlimited everything.
