I love my Jackery Explorer 1000, but just like electric cars, it would seem the trend of portable power stations is starting to shift towards using Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4).

Bluetti has multiple LiFePO4 portable power stations, including the relatively affordable EB70 priced at around £699. Recently Anker launched the 757 PowerHouse using LiFePO4, which is their largest power station at 1229Wh.

Now EcoFlow has launched the new DELTA 2, which shifts from Li-ion NMC to LiFePO4.

LiFePO4 vs Li-ion NMC Portable Power Station Batteries

The reason for this trend is that the LiFePO4 have significantly better longevity than the older Li-ion batteries. A LiFePO4 can typically be charged 3000 times before the capacity reduces to 80%. In comparison, Li-ion NMC will normally hit 80% capacity at just 500 cycles.

There is a bit of a downside to this, LiFePO4 batteries have a lower charge density than Li-ion NMC, so the batteries need to be physically larger for the same charge. In general, for portable power stations and electric cars, this is a price work paying.

EcoFlow DELTA 2 vs Anker 757 PowerHouse vs Jackery Explorer 1000 Differences

The EcoFlow DELTA 2 is extremely competitive compared to the two other big names in the business.

The DELA 2 is has a unique ability to be expanded. You can get the DELTA 2 extra battery to reach 2048Wh, or add on the DELTA Max Extra Battery to hit 3040Wh.

Anker is a bit odd because they have a 256Wh and 512Wh Li-ion NMC battery, then the new flagship LiFePO4 1229Wh Anker 757 PowerHouse.

The EcoFlow DELTA 2 is 28.5% cheaper than the Anker but is only 16.6% smaller in capacity, which I think makes it good value for money.

It only has 4 plug sockets vs 6, but it can do 1800W total, and using the X-boost function, this goes up to 2400W, outclassing all other brands.

Furthermore, the surge protection is also higher at 2700W. The list of pros continues too; the DELTA 2 has 2x 100W USB-C ports, a valuable addition to anyone that wants to work on a laptop remotely.

It can also handle up to 500W solar input, while the Anker is limited to 300W and the Jackery 200W.

One big downside vs the Anker is that you only get a 2-year warranty vs 5, but I think the price difference justifies this.

It is worth noting that Jackery isn’t resting on their laurels. In the US, you can pre-order the new Jackery Explorer 1000 Pro for $1,099. They don’t make the battery technology clear, but its lifecycle is twice as good as the none-pro model I have, USB-C has been upgraded to 100W, solar input goes up to 800W, and you get a 3 year warranty.

EcoFlow DELTA 2 Full Press Release

At IFA 2022, EcoFlow launched the new DELTA 2, with an industry-leading recharging speed that’s seven times faster than the industry average, up to 3kWh of expandable capacity, an up-to-ten-year product lifetime and more, the DELTA 2 is a must-have for every family.

A powerful 1800W AC output makes the DELTA 2 an ideal backup solution in times of soaring energy costs and growing power supply insecurity. However, the DELTA 2 Portable Power Station is much more than just a battery. Possessing the capability to be recharged to 80% in just 50 minutes, supporting charging via portable solar panels in 3 hours and capable of running 90% of home appliances, the DELTA 2 makes users feel at home whether they are camping outdoors or living off-grid in RVs and cabins.

“Building on the success of our original DELTA Portable Power Station, the EcoFlow DELTA 2 demonstrates our commitment to refining our existing technologies,” said Bruce Wang, CEO of EcoFlow. “A recharging speed seven times faster than the industry average, an up to 3KWh of expandable capacity, and a powerful output mean the DELTA 2 is an essential, modern-day appliance for all families. Whether used at home, outdoors or on the go, the DELTA 2 sets a new benchmark in eco-friendly power solutions.”

Expandable Capacity Across a Wide-Ranging Ecosystem

While boasting a large 1024Wh capacity, the EcoFlow DELTA 2 also benefits from an expandable capacity design for boosted performance. The DELTA 2 can also be combined with a DELTA 2 Extra Battery or DELTA Max Extra Battery, providing an impressive 2048Wh or 3040Wh of energy. The resulting long run-time offers users a flexible option for on-demand energy, whether for everyday use or as an emergency power supply.

In addition to its compatibility with extra batteries, DELTA 2 functions across EcoFlow’s existing product ecosystem which comprehensively addresses power generation, storage, and usage. Comprising portable solar panels, the Wave Portable Air Conditioner, the Smart Generator and many other products and accessories, the EcoFlow ecosystem seamlessly integrates with the DELTA 2 to free users from the restrictions of fixed power supplies.

Best-In-Class Recharging Speeds

The DELTA 2’s revolutionary X-Stream technology allows for an unbeatable new standard in fast charging. The DELTA 2 can charge from 0-80% in just 50 minutes, with a full charge achievable in just 80 minutes. Seven times faster than the industry average, DELTA 2’s industry-leading recharging speed allows flexibility for everything from sudden emergencies to last-minute camping trips.

Go Green with DELTA 2 Solar Generators

Ideal for adventures in the great outdoors, DELTA 2 can also be charged using EcoFlow Portable Solar Panels. Supporting a maximum 500W solar input, the DELTA 2 can be fully recharged in three to six hours with two 220W or one 400W Portable Solar Panels, providing a sustainable power supply in outdoor and off-grid scenarios.

Safe Power Supply for 90% of Appliances

The DELTA 2’s powerful 1800W AC output allows it to run 90% of all appliances including heaters, hair dryers, coffee makers, and electric grills. Whether used as a backup supply or to boost outdoor expeditions, the DELTA 2’s 13 outlets deliver a new level of energy freedom, simultaneously powering everything from fridges to phones and washing machines to drones. For high-wattage appliances, the DELTA 2 provides users with peace of mind via EcoFlow’s X-Boost technology, preventing overloading for high-wattage appliances of up to 2400W.

Industry-Leading Lifetime

Utilizing the same premium LFP batteries as deployed in Tesla vehicles, the DELTA 2 boasts a lifetime 6 times the industry average of 500 cycles. As a result, with the potential for an incredible 3,000 cycles over its lifetime, users can power their lives with the DELTA 2 for up to ten years.

With an advanced BMS (Battery Management System) protection system monitoring performance to ensure power is delivered safely, as well as an exclusive five-year guarantee, the DELTA 2 delivers long-lasting energy security unlike any other portable power station on the market.

Availability

The EcoFlow DELTA 2 will retail for €1,199 (£1,099) and will be available for order on EcoFlow websites on September 16.
