I have reviewed quite a few EarFun earbuds over the past two years, and they have consistently been good for the price you pay.

I was impressed with the original Earfun Air Pro, which I reviewed almost a year ago. Now they are back with a second-generation model that claims to offer a superior level of active noise cancelling.

Design and Fit

The EarFun Air Pro 2 have a relatively generic design for earbuds. The stem form factor and black plastic provide both a comfortable fit and an unoffensive design.

These come with two sets of three eartips, so you only get three sizes, but if you lose an ear tip you have a replacement. The overall fit is good, these are quite lightweight, so comfortable to wear and using the large ear tips these stay securely in my ear regardless of the physical activity.

I have used these for running and weightlifting so far and experienced no problems with them falling out. The IPX5 rating is decent enough for me to confidently use these for the sweatiest of gym activities (and I sweat a lot).

Sound Quality

Like most affordable TWS earbuds, the EarFun Air Pro 2 have a prominent bass emphasis that appeals to most casual listeners and works well with modern music.

While I think the bass provides an enjoyable listening experience, it is far from perfect. Drums in some rock tracks can be a little dominant, they don’t hold back vocals too much, but I sometimes find myself concentrating on the beating drum a bit more than I would do with something a little more neutral. Listening to Run the Jewels Ju$T confirms the bass boost, and listening to this track at higher volumes can be overwhelming.

Treble appears to be boosted but is rolled off in the upper highs to avoid harshness and too much sibilance.

The mids sound excellent with warm and energetic vocals. Separation between both instruments and vocals in the midrange is also good.

While these may be less accurate than the Nothing earbuds, I found them less fatiguing to listen to.

Active Noise Cancelling

Active noise cancelling is excellent for earbuds at this price point. I’d say they are well above average for earbuds under £100.

Using my normal airplane cabin noise test, these provide a significant drop off for low-end frequencies leaving a high-end hum that’s moderately loud high-end hum. Music or movies are easily audible over this, and they help drown out the noise further. I’d happily use these on a plane.

Battery

The EarFun Air Pro 2 have slightly less battery life than last years model with 7 hours run time with ANC off and 6 hours with it on. You only lose out on an hour, and I am still happy with 6 hours. I have not run them down completely in one go, but I suspect 5 hours should be easily doable with ANC on.

The total listening time provided with the battery case is 34 hours. The case can be charged wirelessly which is something not often seen at this price.

Price and Alternative Options

They have an RRP of £69.99 with a £10 off voucher available on Amazon.

I can’t help but compare them to the much hyped Nothing (1) earbuds I reviewed recently, which cost £99.99. I’d say the Earfun offer a similar level of performance, but you don’t have an app, and they don’t look as pretty. I think that’s a small compromise for £40 saving.

I also reviewed the Honor Earbuds 2 Lite recently, which have the same RRP but were recently cheaper than £50 The Earfun earbuds offer much more bass, which I think is preferable for most people

Overall

The Air Pro 2 are another superb pair of earbuds from EarFun. They have a superior specification and overall performance compared to most earbuds around the £60 price point, and many others higher.

Active noise cancelling is excellent for the £60-ish price, I’d say just as good as the Nothing earbuds.

Sound quality is good, and I generally enjoyed the sound profile. The bass emphasis might not suit some users who enjoy something more neutral but they should work well with casual listeners. I didn’t suffer from the same fatigue using this as I have done with others recently.

Things like an app or aptX would be nice, but it is probably an unrealistic expectation at this price.

EarFun Air Pro 2 Review Rating

Summary

The EarFun Air Pro 2 tick a lot of boxes and represent superb value for money. Sound quality is good but bass may be a little overemphasised. ANC performance is well above average easily competing with much more expensive earbuds.

  1. I can testify these are very good and excellent at the price point. The 2 sets of ear buds are marked A and B and are slightly different in the length of the plastic stem; this does slightly change audio between A and B.
