I have previously reviewed the superb Tineco Carpet One Pro smart carpet cleaner. It is one of, if not the best, consumer-focused carpet cleaners on the market.

The cordless stick vacuum market is much more competitive, especially with Dyson dominating the industry. So, is the Tineco PURE ONE S15 PRO a viable alternative to Dyson and other big brand names?

Assembly

I recently reviewed the excellent Jimmy H9 Pro. But that came with a lot of components, and it was more confusing than expected to assemble. Thankfully, there is no concern here; the main difference is that the charging stand is a base with no other components. The vacuum slots into it via the brush head and will automatically charge. It is worth noting that the charging stand of this vacuum is much more user-friendly to set up than the more affordable Pure One 12 Pro, which requires wall mounting.

The main body is also fully assembled, you just need to add the pole and brush head, and that’s it.

Display & iLoop Sensor

Tineco has differentiated itself from other brands by implementing a full-colour LCD display into its flagship cleaning products.

When you first switch on the vacuum, you will be guided through a tutorial on how to connect the parts and operate all the functions. I found that the guide on the carpet cleaner was more useful as they are less intuitive than a vacuum, but it is still a nice addition.

When you are cleaning, it will provide feedback about both the battery and performance. If you use the auto setting, it will use the iLoop sensor to automatically detect how dirty the floor or carpet is and adjust the suction based on this, and all of this is fed back to you on display.

Just like the carpet cleaner, when it detects higher levels of dirt, the outer ring will glow up red and then reduce back to blue as you clean the area. It can be quite a useful feature, especially in high-volume areas.

Power – Air Watts vs Watts

Many brands will state the air watts power, which is supposed to provide a more accurate representation of the performance than the power of the motor itself.

In this case, Tineco doesn’t state air watts for the Pure One S15 Pro. The best I have been able to find is the motor is 500W. This puts it a little bit behind the 600W Jimmy H9 Pro I recently reviewed, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it has worse suction power.

The Tineco Pure One A12 Pro Ex has 145W Air Watts suction power with a 450W motor, and I would assume the S15 pro either matches or beats that.

Other comparisons include the Dyson V8, which has a similar power 425W motor to the Pure One A12 Pro Ex but a significantly lower 115 air watt rating (20% less).

The Dyson V10, which is 525W, has 150 Air Watts. Comparing the V8 to the V10, a 23% increase in motor power resulted in a 30% increase in air watts.

Cleaning Performance

The overall cleaning performance is excellent. Subjectively I would say it is a little bit better than the Jimmy H9 Pro Cordless Vacuum but obviously worse than the Vorwerk Kobold VK200 Upright Vacuum, which has 280 air watts of power.

Listing the cleaning performance in order it would be:

  1. Vorwerk Kobold VK200 Upright Vacuum
  2. Tineco PURE ONE S15 PRO Hand Held Vacuum
  3. Jimmy H9 Pro Cordless Vacuum
  4. Halo Capsule Cordless Vacuum
  5. Ecovacs Deebot N8 Robot Vacuum
  6. MooSoo K17U stick cordless vacuum

In general, I used the auto mode, the iLoop sensor is one of the main selling points, so you might as well use it. You can switch it to manual, I mainly use that when I want to force it to max suction, but there is a touch slider that you can use to manually adjust suction.

As well as being good for my general carpet cleaning, it was easy to use on my stairs, and both the crevice and 2-in-1 brush have been excellent for getting in nooks and crannies.

The mini power brush is useful for smaller areas, too, I even put some effort in and cleaned my car floor with it.

This doesn’t have as many accessories as the Jimmy H9 I just reviewed, but to be honest, I barely use most of them. Tineco does sell an accessory kit for £40, but this is listed for the lower models and not the S15.

One thing I particularly liked about this is the way you empty the dust container. With the Jimmy H9 Pro, you had to physically remove the chamber, which inevitably caused some spillage and particulate to be released into the air. With this, you pop open the lid and then use the slider to push the dirt out. You still have the potential to make a mess and spread particulate matter into the air, but it is much cleaner.

A downside to the dustbin design is that it is relatively small at just 470ml. Normally 500ml is the minimum, and some of the Dyson models go up to 770ml.

The main brush uses what they call ZeroTangle technology with V-shaped bristles and a dual comb design which aims to avoid hair getting tangled in the roller. Most of my daily vacuuming is covered by my robot vacuum, and that poor thing is constantly clogged up with my partner’s hair. So far, I have had no issues with this.

Battery

The battery life seems to be the weak point of this vacuum. When used in max mode, you will see the battery indicate a quick drop. I vacuumed my office and the hallway stairs (prior to cleaning my carpets), and I think the battery dropped 50%. You get roughly 10 minutes on maximum.

However, when using the auto mode with iLoop sensor, the suction level gets adjusted automatically and significantly extends the battery. Obviously, this will depend on how grubby your floors are, but it can extend up to 40 minutes. If your floors are anything like mine, I’d expect around 20 minutes.

Unlike the Pure One S12 Pro Ex, there is no spare battery with this. This is a shame because I think it would help make it stand out from competing premium-priced stick vacuums.

Similar to the Jimmy, this includes a charging stand, and I would say it is easier to mount, with the mount point being in the base of the vacuum. This helps ensure the vacuum is always charged and ready for you when you pick it up. With cheaper options like the Halo Capsule, I would always forget to plug it in.

App

Just like the carpet cleaner, this has Wi-Fi connectivity and can be paired with the Tineco app. Just like the carpet cleaner, there is very limited use to the app. The colour LCD display provides all the feedback you need.

You can set up schedules, but you could do that with your phone’s built-in reminder/calendar functions.

It will then provide some semi-interesting cleaning stats, which you may look at a few times but then quickly forget about.

Price and Alternative Options

The Tineco Pure One S15 Pro has an RRP of £599 and is currently only available directly from Tineco.

Buy the Tineco PURE ONE S15 PRO

Just like the Carpet One Pro carpet cleaner, you are paying a significant premium for the full-colour LCD display.

I think that the Pure One S12 Pro Ex would provide better value for money for most users, especially at the current discounted price of £279 on Amazon. It doesn’t appear to be quite as good, which is to be expected, but that’s a big price difference.

Compared to Dyson, the price seems to be about right:

  • Dyson V8 for £380
    • 40 min run time, 5-hour charge time
    • 0.54L capacity
    • 425W power
    • Dyson says this can do 115 Air Watts
  • Dyson V10 for £430
    • 60 min run time, 4.5 hour charge time
    • 0.77L capacity
    • 525W power
    • 150 Air Watts
  • Dyson V15 detect for £619
    • 60 min run time, 4.5 hour charge time
    • 0.77L capacity
    • 660W power
    • 230 Air Watts
    • Independent tests indicate this can do 280AW

Overall

The Tineco Pure One S15 Pro is definitely the best cordless stick vacuum I have used, and I have no doubt that it can compete with some of the higher-priced Dyson vacuums.

There is a disparity in current pricing between this and the older Pure One S12 Pro EX. That has a similar RRP of £549 but is available for £384 via Tineco or just £279. The Pure One S15 Pro is superior in many ways but perhaps not more than twice as good as the price would suggest.
