TerraMaster has launched an exciting new product – the D5 Hybrid. As the industry’s first 5-bay USB 3.2 hybrid storage device, the D5 Hybrid combines the high capacity of traditional hard disk drives (HDDs) with the performance benefits of solid-state drives (SSDs).
At the heart of the D5 Hybrid is its innovative 2+3 RAID design. The enclosure can accommodate:
- 2 x 3.5″ SATA HDDs/SSDs up to 22TB each
- 3 x M.2 NVMe SSDs up to 8TB each
This flexible configuration allows users to optimize storage based on access patterns. HDDs can store infrequently accessed “cold” data, while SSDs handle frequently accessed “hot” data for faster performance.
The 2 HDD bays support RAID 0/1/JBOD/Single modes. The 3 M.2 slots operate in Single Disk mode only. In total, the D5 Hybrid can provide up to 68TB of storage capacity.
Enabled by the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface, the D5 Hybrid delivers exceptional data transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. Benchmark tests using RAID 0 show impressive numbers:
- 521 MB/s read/write with 2 x 8TB NAS HDDs
- 960 MB/s read with 2 x 1TB NAS SSDs
- 980 MB/s read with 1 x NVMe M.2 SSD
These speeds allow users to efficiently transfer and access large volumes of data for improved productivity.
The D5 Hybrid uses a USB-C port for connectivity. This allows compatibility with a wide range of devices and operating systems:
- USB 3.0/3.1/3.2/4.0 and Thunderbolt 3/4
- Windows 7 and newer
- macOS 10.6 and newer
- Linux Ubuntu 16.04/18.04/20.04
A 1m USB-C cable is included for out-of-the-box use.
Data protection is made easy with TerraMaster’s TPC Backupper software for Windows. It enables simple setup of scheduled backups from PC folders or partitions to the D5 Hybrid or other TerraMaster storage devices. Both incremental and differential backup schemes are supported.
Despite its advanced capabilities, the D5 Hybrid remains easy to use. Its tool-less drive trays with push-lock mechanisms allow swift installation of HDDs without screws. The side panel conveniently slides open for M.2 SSD access.
Intelligent power management places unused drives into sleep mode to reduce power draw and extend drive lifespan. Acoustic damping panels also minimize noise – the D5 Hybrid operates at just 19dB in standby.
With an MSRP of $219.99, the feature-packed TerraMaster D5 Hybrid delivers an unbeatable value proposition for users needing high capacity storage with SSD-like speeds. It is undoubtedly an exciting new option in the external direct-attached storage market.
