Why are there no 4G models in the US?
Looking at the table it seems odd that the US is getting no 4G only models, The US is massive compared to the UK so their 5G coverage is much more sparse than the UK.
The reason is the chipset inside the phone. For whatever reason, Samsung use two different chipsets depending on the region you buy the phone, in the US you get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, in the UK and EU we have the Samsung Exynos 990.
When the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, when it launched, it was claimed that it must use the 5G X55 modem.
When Samsung launched the Exynos 990 they also talked about the 5G Exynos Modem 5123 which is a complete multi-band solution supporting everything from 2G to 5G sub-6 as well as mmWave. They didn’t specifically state that the Exynos 990 will only use the Exynos Modem 5123 so it looks like they may use this for their 4G models.
While I can't confirm this, it would seem that Samsung has included a 4G only modem on the 4G variants of the S20 phones sold in the UK.
A little bit disappointing but I guess you can save £100 if you have no interest in 5G this year.
