Yesterday, in Paris, not IFA, OPPO announced Reno8 Series in Europe, featuring MariSilicon X on Reno8 Pro.

The TLDR is that the Oppo Reno8 Pro is basically the Realme GT Neo 3 that I reviewed earlier in the year. To be fair, the Realme GT Neo 3 is a superb phone.

There are some infinitesimal differences, though:

  • The OPPO has a dedicated MariSilicon X imaging GPU which should improve image quality, similar to the OPPO Find X5 Pro.
  • The OPPO has a 32MP selfie camera vs 16MP on the Realme.
  • The OPPO has the same battery size of 4500 mAh as the Realme GT Neo 3 150W, it lacks the 150W charging, instead using 80W, like the more affordable Realme.

Then, in the UK, you can only buy the Realme GT Neo 3 150W, and this comes with 12+256GB. The OPPO will cost the same but come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

That could make the OPPO Reno8 Pro a hard sell for any tech-savvy person that buys their phones SIM-free. However, I have always found one of the main selling points of OPPO is the wide availability on contract. OPPO phones quite frequently work out much cheaper when taken on contract, so it is worth keeping an eye out for a good deal.

OPPO has confirmed availability on Currys, EE, Vodafone, O2, Carphone Warehouse, Sky, Amazon, Argos, Very, AO and OPPO’s eStore.

OPPO Pad Air tablet

OPPO also launched OPPO Pad Air, the company’s first tablet available in Europe. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 Mobile Platform, OPPO Pad Air sports a 10.36-inch 2K display with quad speakers supporting Dolby Atmos. At only 440g and 6.94mm thickness and a metal body, the tablet is extraordinarily light yet durable. Its impressive 7,100 mAh battery offers over 10 hours of continuous video consumption.

There are a woeful lack of good Android tablets on the market and this is priced at a reasonable £239. The chipset is a bit weak but it should be perfectly fine most applications and general Internet browsing.

The Reno Series is constantly gaining its popularity. As of the third quarter of 2021, OPPO’s Reno series ranked first globally among the ‘New Age smartphone families’. Additionally, since the launch of Reno series in early 2019, OPPO has shipped over 80 million Reno devices worldwide.

Both devices feature Dual Sony Flagship Sensors, including the 32MP IMX709 RGBW sensor for the selfie camera, which enables users to capture clearer selfies in low light, and the 50MP IMX766 sensor in the rear for flagship-level camera performance.

Reno8 Pro 5G houses the MariSilicon X imaging NPU, enabling unrivalled videography capabilities in its class. MariSilicon X enables 4K Ultra Night Video for ultra-clear, brighter, and more detailed videos at night, as well as 4K Ultra HDR Video to keep details in both highlights and shadows.

Flagship charging speeds with incredible battery lifespan

80W SUPERVOOC on Reno8 Pro 5G and Reno8 5G empowers users to charge the 4500 mAh battery to 50% in around 10 minutes, and to 100% in around 30 minutes. With Battery Health Engine, Reno8 series devices keep up to 80% of their original capacity after 1,600 full charge cycles, which is twice the industry standard (800 cycles), making it the longest smartphone battery lifespan on the market.

With the Reno8 series, OPPO continues offering an industry-leading charging experience for global users. As of 2014, over 220 million users around the world have earned back countless hours in their day.

Light and streamlined unibody design for a smooth hand feel

Both Reno8 Pro 5G and Reno8 5G feature high refresh rate AMOLED displays. Reno8 Pro 5G has the slimmest bezels in any Reno for a more immersive display experience.
