Following on from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 announcement, at the Snapdragon Summit 2023, Chinese smartphone manufacturer OPPO highlighted its latest technological achievements developed in collaboration with Qualcomm.

OPPO announced that its upcoming flagship smartphone will be one of the first devices to be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform. This next-generation chipset promises to deliver enhanced performance and efficiency.

Mobile Ray Tracing Demo with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

One of the key collaborations between OPPO and Qualcomm has been optimizing OPPO’s proprietary ray tracing engine, PhysRay Engine 2.0, for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The companies showcased a demo of hardware-based ray tracing on a smartphone for the first time, significantly improving visual effects in mobile gaming. For example, realistic reflections and lighting effects were rendered in real-time in the mobile racing game “Nitro Nation World Tour”.

OPPO also unveiled the OPPO MR Glass Developer Edition, an augmented reality headset for developers. This device supports the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 1 platform and Snapdragon Spaces XR Developers Platform.OPPO aims to create cutting-edge mixed reality experiences that seamlessly blend physical and digital worlds.

Wearables Running on Snapdragon Platforms

In addition to smartphones, OPPO’s collaboration with Qualcomm spans across wearable devices like smartwatches. For example, the OPPO Watch 4 Pro runs on the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 platform. It offers robust health tracking features and up to 14 days of battery life, showcasing the capabilities of the Snapdragon platform.
