I reviewed the Netatmo smart smoke alarm back in 2019 and Netatmo has continued to update this useful piece of smart technology as well as the carbon monoxide alarm they have.

The latest update adds compatibility of its Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms with the Google voice assistant. Both are now compatible with two of the main voice assistants: Google Home and Apple Home.

The Netatmo Smart Smoke Detector, available since 2018, and the Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide Detector, available since the end of 2021, together form the brand’s Domestic Risks security range. Despite having different functions, the alarms have similar features and benefits.

Save precious seconds with New Compatibility

The Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide and Smart Smoke Alarms are now compatible with Google Home. As always, Netatmo works on evolving its products, even after they have been launched, to add new features regularly and automatically.

With the new compatibility, Google Home voice assistant can now alert where smoke or carbon monoxide has been detected in their home. This is particularly useful if the nature or location of the alarm is not recognised. This would be the case if you do not have your smartphone with you, if you are a child or if you have guests in the house. The new compatibility is a great addition, particularly as every second counts in the event of a fire or carbon monoxide leak.

Quick and easy installation

Both Netatmo detectors work without any electrical connection and are quick to install. Simply screw the Smoke Alarm to the ceiling and the CO Alarm the wall, then download the Home + Security App to manage both alarms. It’s also important to follow the installation precautions recommended by Netatmo and detailed in the pack.

For the carbon monoxide detector, it advises installing it in any room with a combustion appliance such as a boiler, fireplace, cooker or gas cooker.

For smoke detectors, it recommends installing at least one per floor, in high-traffic areas such as corridors, far enough away from direct sources of smoke such as the kitchen to avoid any untimely triggering.

A 10-year battery life

All carbon monoxide and smoke detectors should be replaced after 10 years, as the detection sensor wears out over time. However, many connected carbon monoxide and smoke detectors have batteries with a life span of only 1 to 5 years. These devices therefore need to have their batteries changed regularly.

Thanks to their long-life batteries, the Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Smart Smoke Alarm are autonomous for 10 years, without the user having to worry about them. At the end of their lifetimes, they send a notification to the user to warn them and encourage them to buy a new detector to protect themselves.

Auto-test feature

The Netatmo Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarms have Auto-Test functions that check the status of the carbon monoxide or smoke sensor, the battery and the Wi-Fi connection. This means that the user can rely on the Alarm with peace of mind, as it will alert them if a problem is detected. It also has an Alarm Test function, which checks that the 85dB alarm is working properly, and is recommended to be used at least once a year.

Prices and availability

The Netatmo Smart Carbon Monoxide Alarm and the Netatmo Smart Smoke Alarm are both sold at the same price: £89.99, with no hidden fees or home automation box to add. The product is available on https://www.netatmo.com/en-gb.

The Home + Security app is completely free and compatible with iPhones and iPads from iOS 14 and Android smartphones and tablets from 5.0.

The Netatmo Webapp is available on Mac and PC.
