Last years Huawei P Smart was one of the best budget Android phones when it launched, and Huawei hope to replicate that success with the 2019 model.

The P Smart (2019) features the waterdrop-style notch that has been growing in popularity recently and allows the phone to have a 6.21-inch display with Full HD+ (2,340 x 1,080) resolution with minimum disruption to the notification panel.

It is powered by the octa-core Kirin 710 processor which is also featured in the excellent Mate 20 Lite. This will then be complemented with 3GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 3,400mAh battery. Unfortunately, Huawei has decided to keep the microUSB instead of the increasingly popular USB Type-C.

The Huawei P smart 2019 comes with a dual AI camera set up: a 13-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel secondary camera, to achieve those bokeh portrait shorts.

The AI in the camera can recognise over 500 scenes and provide real-time optimisation so you can achieve bright, detailed nighttime photos. Google and OnePlus have gone all in on their nighttime photography features recently so it will be interesting to try Huawei’s latest against them.

The phone comes in three colours: Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, and Aurora Blue.

The phone will launch the 11th of January for £149 and will be available from Carphone Wireless, EE, O2, Three, and Vodafone.
