Elevoc is a new company entering the TWS earbud market with the brand launching via Indiegogo.

Rather than some generic earbuds, Elevoc has developed their earbuds to offer superior noise-cancelling for calls than most competing models. This is then combined with a relatively low price point for the ANC market, and it makes them quite an interesting option.

Design & Fit

The Elevoc Clear have a relatively generic design that includes a stem. If they were all white, you might mistake them for the AirPods Pro.

They include 6 sets of ear tips, which is well above average and something that makes a big different with getting the ideal fit for you ears.

Comfort and general fit are excellent, with the larger tips, I am able to get a secure fit, and the earbuds do not come loose in my ear at all. I have used these for the gym and running and had no problems with them falling out. The IP54 rating also means they are better than average for ingress protection and therefore suitable for most types of exercise.

Sound Quality

These are some of the most bass-forward earbuds I have reviewed in the past year or so. People wanting a neutral sound will not like them at all.

Even though I prefer a bit more bass, when I first put these on it does sound a bit too much. It seems to settle down with use, though, or I just become accustomed to it. The bass can overwhelm vocals and some instruments in the higher ranges, the degree of this varies dependent on genre.

Switching the ANC on and off changes the bass profile somewhat. With ANC on I found it slightly less overwhelming.

Mid-range is reasonably good, things like vocals and lead instruments can punch through the bass quite clearly.

The higher-end is OK too, I don’t find too much harshness with no issues with sibilance.

It would be good if future versions of the Elevoc app included an EQ setting so you could dial down the bass a little.

ANC

I was quite surprised by how good the ANC is on these. With music switched off and airplane cabin noise played at high volume over my PC speakers, these eliminated a significant amount of low-end hum. They are not going to compete with premium ANC earbuds, but I’d say they are one of the best ANC options I have tried at this price point. Admittedly, there are not loads of good ANC earbuds at £100ish.

Calls

The Elevoc YouTube video gives you a good overview of why these earbuds are great for call quality

One of the main selling points of the Elevoc Clear is the call quality, thanks to the  6 mics + 2 voice accelerometers design combined with Vocplus noise cancellation algorithm. I will admit that I do my best to avoid speaking to people, so call quality is not something I always pay much attention to. I tested these out in a few scenarios, and they seemed to work well, certainly better than average. Using them outdoor with wind noise is normally a problem area for a lot of earphone but these handles the environment well.

Battery

These are rated at 5 hours with ANC on and 6 off, which is a bit longer than average, for example, the AirPods Pro can do up to 4.5 hours of listening time. However, many newer ANC earbuds can do much longer.

Price and Alternative Options

The launch offer is:

  • Launch day: 7th, Sept. PST 7 am
  • Price: $59 for super early bird
  • Order from Indigogo

The RRP is $129 or around £93. Even at RRP, I think these are a good buy, and I don’t think you will find any earbuds that can compete with these at the early bird price point.

The Huawei Freebuds Pro would be the best alternative I have personally used. They have a bass-forward sound profile, but overall better sound quality, they then have excellent ANC and call quality. Currently, they are around £120, but they are regularly as low as £90. You can buy them from Amazon.

I have not used them myself yet but the Nothing ear(1) earbuds are £99.99. If you were to believe the marketing hype then they are the best thing ever. I doubt this is true, but they should offer good performance for the price.

Overall

The Elevoc Clear earbuds are generally good, even when factoring in the final RRP. The early bird price makes them a superb deal.

The very bassy sound profile won’t be for everyone, while I quite liked it, it was perhaps a bit too much for my preference.

The ANC is superb considering the price, and if you take calls a lot then these will outclass most other earphones.

Overall, the ANC and call quality are the stand out features here, if you are on calls a lot these are superb earphones. While they are OK for music, it is one of the weaker points of these earbuds.

Summary

The Elevoc Clear Earbuds offer very good value for money, especially with the early bird prices. They excel at ANC and call quality, but the bass-heavy sound profile may not be ideal for everyone that wants to use these for music.

  1. I purchased these earphones and they are terrible, if you look at the Indigogo site you will see many people complaining about the product and the lack of support, it is woeful. They are not noise cancelling, when I am on the phone on my walk people I am trying to speak to cannot hear me as it’s all muffled & all they can hear is the cars & trucks driving past me. I emailed the support line (only way to get to support) & they don’t understand the issue as they seem to only have scripted answers & they take approx. 2-4 weeks to reply. So do yourself a favour and do not purchase this product!
