A couple of years ago, I reviewed the Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub. I loved the concept of a smart BBQ thermometer, but when it launched, it was plagued with teething problems. It has improved over the years, and I still use it today.

Another popular option for BBQs and cooking, in general, is an instant-read thermometer. Ideally, everyone would have one of these as it will ensure your meat is cooked to a safe temperature, and they can also be used for things like baking.

Changing from Fahrenheit to Celsius

Out of the box, this uses Fahrenheit. This is OK if you are American, but not much use anywhere else.

Thankfully you can switch to Celsius. You need to physically open up the Finaltouch, which includes unscrewing the battery compartment. Then with the thermometer switched on, you can press the tiny °F/°C button.

In Use

The temperature briefly got to the point where I thought about using the BBQ but it has quickly gone back to the typical cold northern weather.

So I have used this indoors only so far.

Swapping this between boiling water and iced water provides quick and accurate results.

I then used this with a roast chicken and a thick piece of steak. I found it particularly useful for the chicken as I always have a bad habit of overcooking it a bit. Which can leave the meat dry, especially for leftover meat the next day.

The thermometer is magnetic so it can easily attach to the side of thee fridge, which I find very useful.

Price and Alternative Options

The ChefsTemp Finaltouch X10 has an RRP of $89.99 and is currently on sale for $69.99. This works out as roughly £69 and £54 respectively. For UK buyers, you will get stung with a steep $30 shipping fee. This brings the current price to $99.98 or £76.22

There are dozens of affordable alternatives on Amazon UK.

Thermapen is the brand many BBQ fans love. The Thermapen ONE is £66, the Professional has the same RRP, but you can get it for around £45.

Lavatools Javelin PRO Duo is also a popular option, and this is just £30

Heston Blumenthal Digital Meat Thermometer by Salter is currently around £22 on Amazon

Not the same, but you then have a lot of smart thermometers which are designed to be left inside your meat and notify you of the desired temperature.

Meater is the option that has become incredibly popular in recent years. The single probe option is £100 for the Meater+, and you can get a block of probes for £279

The Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub is £150, it has improved a lot since I used it back in 2020 and I still use it when BBQ.

The Chefstemp Finaltouch X10 is a superb cooking thermometer, and I plan to leave it stuck on my fridge for easy access.

The high shipping fees mean this is probably not the best option for UK buyers. You can pick up a Thermapen  Professional for £30 less, though it lacks the handy magnetic mounting.

ChefsTemp Finaltouch X10 Instant Read Meat Thermometer Review Rating

The Finaltouch X10 is a superb meat thermometer that can compete with the biggest names in the business. However, the high shipping fees to the UK are a bit off putting

  • Performance - 90%
  • Price - 65%

  • Fast and accurate temperatures
  • Magnetic mounting

  • Reasonably high RRP
  • High shipping costs to the UK
