Best Discrete Lightweight Belt-Driven E-Bikes [Page 2]

For me, this appears to be the best bike overall on this list. It is only a little bit heavier than the Vanpowers, and the range is around the same, but it has several advantages. This includes not having to build the bike yourself, a torque sensor, a removable battery and an attractive integrated front light.

There is also the none-pro CGO600 for £300 less, which is 1kg lighter, has a shorter range of 43 miles, an integrated battery, and the design isn’t quite as nice with the front light not integrated into the frame. US buyers are also limited to 250W.

Gogoro Eeyo 1

  • Country availability: UK & US?
  • Weight: 12.5kg
  • Frame: Carbon Fibre

  • Brakes: Front disk only. TRP Disk
  • Tyres: 700c Alloy Rims, 30mm Dish. MAXXIS 700 X 28C
  • Price: £3,999

The Gogoro Eeyo 1 is definitely the stand-out option on this list, but it is probably not going to appeal to a lot of buyers due to the price.

The steep price is partly due to the use of a carbon fibre frame. They have also developed their own motor, which is likely a big factor in the cost. It is the entire wheel, and it was designed by Gogoro from the ground up instead of pulling from existing technology. It brings the motor, battery and sensors together into one incredibly smart and lightweight wheel.

I assume, due to the design of the wheel, there is no rear brake, so you need to be careful braking (I have flipped my road bike by using the front brake first).

There is no display, instead, all the functions are controlled via an app on your phone. This also includes an auto-locking function.

With a 12.5kg weight and a torque sensor, this is likely the most enjoyable bike to ride. If you can afford it.

Overall

Sadly, there are not as many options as I would like for this niche, but I think it is something we will see more of.

I have not used it, but the TENWAYS CGO600 Pro is the best option on the list for me if money is not one of your main concerns. The spec makes it a bit more appealing than the Vanpowers, though if money is a concern, I am not sure the £300+ difference justifies those improved specs.

The Vanpowers City Vanture is the best all-around option when factoring in the price.

I’d love to own the Gogoro Eeyo 1, but I am not paying that price.
