[Update August 29, 2019] – The Redmi K20 Pro finally gets rebranded to the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro for the international markets and is available for 399.00-Euros or £364 via Amazon.

Xiaomi has just introduced the hotly anticipated Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro, dubbed the “Flagship Killer 2.0”.

The standard K20 is powered by the Snapdragon 730, while the Pro version features a Snapdragon 855. With the Redmi K20 Pro, Xiaomi has launched a phone that could compete directly with their own Mi 9 which is currently the cheapest Snapdragon 855.

Granted, if they are going to compete directly this assumes the K20 Pro will launch in the UK, but rumours suggest that the phone will be rebranded to the Mi 9T.

Pricing Options

I have removed the original Chinese launch prices, as usual, they translated very badly to what we might see here. Based on the original 2499-CNY price this would have worked out at around £300. Instead, the phone has launched for 399-Euros, or £364, which is still an Amazing buy

For reference, the Mi 9 launched in the UK officially at £499 but is currently available for £449 from Amazon UK. However, just like the Mi 9T, it is far more sensible to buy it from Amazon.es where it is priced identically to the Mi 9T at 399-Euros/£364

Specification Comparison

In terms of spec, the Xiaomi Redmi K20 Pro / Mi 9T is superior in almost every aspect.

The one minor weakness it has compared to the Mi 9 is the rear camera specification. The K20 Pro uses the same 48MP Sony IMX582 sensor for its main camera but then has a 13 MP, f/2.4, ultrawide and 8 MP, f/2.4, telephoto whereas the Mi 9 has a 16 MP, f/2.2, ultrawide and 12 MP, f/2.2, telephoto.

The K20 has a superior screen to body resolution thanks to the pop-up selfie camera, achieving 86.1% screen-to-body ratio.

It has a 3.5mm headphone jack with support for 24-bit/192kHz audio, something quite rare among flagship devices and surely a feature to win many users over.

It also addresses the Mi 9’s biggest weakness, its battery. The K20 Pro/ Mi 9T has a 4000 mAh battery but it does sacrifice wireless charging. Personally, I think this is worth it compared to a smaller battery.
