Overview of the Reolink Duo 3 PoE

Reolink Duo 2 vs Duo

The Duo 3 PoE combines two 4K image sensors to provide stunning 16MP ultra HD video quality. Each lens captures a separate 180-degree view, which is stitched together to create a seamless, panoramic image covering the full 360 degrees with no blindspots.

Reolink claims the advanced image stitching algorithm results in a smooth, immersive view without distracting seams between the dual lenses’ fields of view. This allows users to witness complete movement of people, vehicles or animals within a single continuous image.

Key Features

  • 16MP ultra HD resolution
  • Dual 180-degree lenses for 360-degree coverage
  • Advanced image stitching algorithm
  • Integrated adjustable floodlights
  • Color night vision and IR night vision
  • Motion tracking with real-time alerts
  • Weatherproof IP66 rating

The Duo 3 also includes integrated 560 lumen adjustable floodlights to illuminate the camera’s field of view at night. Combined with the choice of colour or IR night vision modes, the camera promises unparalleled clarity for round-the-clock surveillance.

Intelligent motion detection can track the movement of people, vehicles and animals, sending real-time alert images straight to the user’s email inbox.

How the Duo 3 Improves on the Previous Model

Reolink Due Floodlight

The Duo 3 PoE supercedes Reolink’s previous top-of-the-range dual lens security camera, the Duo 2, with several key enhancements:

Image Quality

With its 16MP sensors, the Duo 3 offers four times higher resolution than the Duo 2’s 4MP cameras. This takes clarity to new levels, picking up fine details like facial features and license plates even at a distance.

Panoramic View

The Duo 3 PoE implements the same stitched image processing as the Due 2 which results in a seamless, immersive 180-degree panoramic view. The original Due had two separate streams and you could only view the image as one via the app.

Motion Track

Reolink has introduced a handy new feature called Motion Track in the Duo 3 PoE, which is easily configured via the Reolink mobile app. Typically, security cameras begin recording when motion is detected, sending an alert when someone enters the monitored area. However, tracking a subject’s entire movement path previously required downloading long video clips, eating up bandwidth and storage.

Motion Track cleverly combines a person’s route over time into a single overlay image. So rather than storing reams of footage, the camera can display the complete movement path in one shot. This means you get all the alarm details you need without the hassle of downloading lengthy clips – very nifty.

Pricing and Availability

The Reolink Duo 3 PoE is set for release in early 2024 with an RRP of £180

This represents a significant step up from the Duo 2’s RRP of £140. However, the increased resolution and features seem to justify the extra investment for home and business users seeking a premium security solution.

Conclusion

With its 16MP ultra HD resolution, 16MP and enhanced smart features like motion tracking, the Reolink Duo 3 PoE looks set to be a top-of-the-range option for home security camera buyers in 2024.

While the RRP is considerably higher than previous generations, the significant resolution bump and premium capabilities appear to make the investment worthwhile for users seeking the very best image quality and surveillance coverage.

Is a Reolink ColorX Duo incoming?

One image that has been previously revealed is a picture of the Reolink Duo 3 next to another dual-lens camera, which looks striking, similar to the Annke NightChroma NCD800 or one of the dual-lens Hikvision Colorvu cameras.

I am a big fan of these true colour night vision cameras, and it is an area that Reolink have flagged behind in comparison to the various companies associated with Hikvision.

Reolink is finally catching up; they launched the 4MP ColorX CX410 last year and have just announced the 4K CX810. It would be great to see them launch a ColorX Duo sometime in the near future.
