[Update] Multiple mistakes on my posts. Sorry. While the Realme 8 5G has been announced they haven’t announced the launched date, but it will launch for €199. They have announced the Realme 8 which will be launched on the 12th of May.

Realme has today announced the Realme 8 5G, the first phone to arrive in the UK with the new 5G MediaTek Dimensity 700.

It is a bit of a strange launch because it is actually a downgrade to the Realme 7 5G which launched last year, but it should hopefully launch quite a lot less (€199).

Just to confuse things further, while Realme led with the Realme 8 5G, they have not said when it will be available, but it is launching for the same price as the 8 5G at €199.

Then the Realme 8 was announced in Euros at €199, even though the press announcement especially states be available in the UK from 12th May from Amazon and realme.com/uk.

So the Realme 8 5G may, or may not, end up being the cheapest 5G phone on the UK market.

Out of the two phones, it ends up being the Realme 8 that sounds the most interesting. The chipset should offer about the same performance, just 4G not 5G. The Realme 8 then switches to an AMOLED display and upgrading the camera from the previous generation.

New-Gen 5G Processor – the UK’s First MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G Processor

realme 8 5G is the UK’s first smartphone to come with MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G Processor, which mixes two highly capable Arm Cortex-A76 cores in its octa-core CPU operating up to a speedy 2.2GHz. MediaTek Dimensity 700 uses the leading 7nm production processor, which is up to 28% more power-efficient than an equivalent 8nm process, allowing the MediaTek Dimensity 700 to use its high-performance processors while only using power, extending battery life to keep the user connected for longer. The MediaTek Dimensity 700 brings a powerful GPU – Arm Mali-G57 MC2 with 950MHz clock speed and supports 90Hz high refresh rate screen technology.

MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G processor also supports 5G Dual SIM Dual Standby, letting the phone support 5G SIM cards online by 5G network. Not only that, the processor supports SA/NSA and covers the mainstream 5G frequency band. It also consists of Advanced Dual Network Acceleration technology that can realize Wi-Fi and 5G network overlay.

5000mAh Massive Battery and Smart 5G Power Saving

realme 8 5G is equipped with a 5000mAh massive battery. It comes with an 18W type-C quick charge through which the 5000mAh battery can be fully charged rapidly.

realme 8 5G also supports Smart 5G Power Saving. As 5G uses more power consumption, it will shorten its battery life but realme has introduced Smart 5G Power Saving to improve this situation. Smart 5G technology can intelligently sense the surrounding signal environment and “senselessly” switch between 4G and 5G without switching time, which achieves 30% lower power consumption than phones without the Smart 5G feature. Among other strategies, Super Power Saving Mode uses CPU tuning, backlight adjustment, and targeted power-saving measures for specific applications, through which the system power consumption is reduced and the phone life is extended. The Sleep Standby Optimization, App Quick Freeze, and Screen Battery Optimization all increase the phone’s battery life in realme 8 5G.

Display

realme 8 5G features a 6.5-inch 90Hz Ultra Smooth Display with a 90Hz refresh rate and maximum 180Hz sampling rate. Capable of producing 90 frames per second, the 90Hz display has a 50% higher refresh rate compared to a conventional 60Hz display, resulting in a seamless and smooth visual experience with every swipe of the screen. With a 6.5-inch big display and an incredible screen-to-body ratio, the realme 8 5G brings you a supreme visual experience. The display comes with 2400×1080 FHD+ resolution, up to 180Hz touch sample rate, 600 nits brightness peak, and 16.7 million screen colors.

 Cameras

realme 8 5G boasts an advanced 48MP Nightscape Camera, comprising a 48MP Ultra HD Main Camera, a B&W portrait lens, and a macro lens. The primary camera uses 48MP Ultra HD Main Camera and comes with an F1.8 aperture, 80° FOV, and 6P lens. It consists of professional HD lenses that can record ultra-clear scenes with specific photo details and double the overall texture. The camera also consists of a B & W Portrait lens. This comes with the new colour filter system that enables the portrait lens to detect a more comprehensive array of light, assist the primary lens in capturing light better, enhance image contrast, create retro-style images, and add texture to portraits. The 4 cm Macro lens in the camera enables users to get closer and discover the beauty of the micro world with a 4cm shooting distance.

realme 8 5G also comes with a 16MP AI Beauty Selfie, as the ultra-clear front camera has F2.0 aperture, supporting smart beauty mode, Bokeh Effect, etc. The smartphone features a brand-new beauty algorithm developed for different genders, different skin types, and facial shapes and features allowing users to take selfies that shows natural skin.

The realme 8 5G camera also features Nightscape Mode, which has built in many popular night filters with the multi-frame synthesis engine technology. It helps take a set of photos with different light exposure simultaneously and then combines them into one. Besides maintaining a good exposure with highlight spots, this mode can also increase the light in the dark to make it clearer with more details.

 Design

realme 8 5G is the thinnest 5G smartphone in the segment and comes with an 8.5mm super slim body, 185g super lightweight, and has a great feel in hand, delivering a comfortable experience.

Dynamic Speed Light Design

The smartphone comes with a back cover that creates a dynamic change of light when the phone is shaken, which is called Dynamic Speed Light. To deliver this design concept, realme 8 5G uses a high-gloss indium plating process on Supersonic Blue to restore a glossy sense of light. On Supersonic Black, the smartphone features a lenticular pattern process to present a premium mirror effect to bring out the sense of light better.

Fast Side Fingerprint Scanner

realme 8 5G features a side fingerprint scanner, which ingeniously fuses the power button and fingerprint recognition modules. With a capacitive recognition system, just one press can unlock the phone instantly and this also provides more security.

Storage variants

realme 8 5G has 2 memory variants, 4GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB. The smartphone is also equipped with a 3-card slot for two SIM cards and one SD card (up to 1TB).

Dynamic RAM Expansion Technology (DRE)

To tackle the drawbacks caused by insufficient RAM and create more memory, realme 8 5G comes with a new Dynamic RAM Expansion Technology (DRE) that converts storage/ROM into virtual RAM. As per the test data, with DRE 4GB can turn to 5GB and 8GB turns into 11GB – all of which are virtual ROM conversions. It enables even smoother multiple app usages.
