The Honor V30 series was announced back in November, but thanks to the ongoing issues with the US the phone has not launched in the UK.
Honor was planning on a launch event on the 24th of February at MWC, but that has now been cancelled, so they will be doing an online launch event, much like other brands, including Realme and Xiaomi.
The launch event states that Honor will unveil “its latest products and technologies”, without mentioning anything in particular. Honor hasn’t traditionally launched hardware at MWC, but it now looks like that is/was about to change.
It is believed that the phone will launch as part of this event. Due to the issues with the US there will be no Google services such as Gmail, Maps and YouTube. However, it is reported this will be the first device to launch with the full suite of Huawei Mobiles Services (HMS) which will offer maps and navigation, mail, video streaming, and pretty much everything to fill the Google void.
As for the phone itself, it is supposed to be superb, it features a 6.57-inch IPS LCD with Full HD+ resolution, Kirin 990 SoC, Android 10 OS with Magic UI 3
In particular, the camera is regarded as being excellent with the Pro model being 3rd in DXOMARK sitting behind the Mate 30 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro.
On the V30 Pro there is:
- Primary: 40MP 1/1.7-inch sensor and 27mm f/1.6-aperture lens with OIS
- Ultra-wide: 12MP sensor with 1.4µm pixels and 16mm f/2.2-aperture lens
- Telephoto: 8MP 1/4-inch sensor and 80mm f/2.4-aperture lens with OIS
- PDAF and laser autofocus (all cameras)
The none Pro model is not that much different, just with a lower specced 8 MP, f/2.4, 16mm (ultrawide) lens.
Huawei recently announced the launch of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro in the UK, this also lacks Google and it is expected that it will receive an update pushing the new Huawei Mobiles Services (HMS) to it soon.
Of course, with either option, there are ways around some of the issues you face with a lack of Google. If you use phone clone from an older Huawei phone, you can get many of the apps you want. There are also plenty of third-party app stores includes Huawei’s AppGallery, Amazon Appstore, APKMirror and F-Droid.
