I have been a big fan of video doorbells for several years and have used most of the popular options out there, including the Eufy Security Video Doorbell S330, Ring Video Doorbell 4, Arlo Essential Video Doorbell and the Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4.

I also run several POE surveillance cameras and have reviewed options from Hikvision, Annke, Ezviz and Reolink.

Back when electricity was affordable, I used to run Blue Iris on a dedicated server, which allowed me to easily mix and match the cameras I used by connecting them with ONVIF/RTSP.

However, since reviewing the Reolink NVR, I ended up switching everything over to Reolink cameras only, as it is a bit more affordable to run.

With the video doorbells I have, they all rely on a battery for power and connect to WiFi as I don’t have easy access to power the cameras from normal doorbell wiring or POE.

At some point, I’d like a wired doorbell that can record 24/7 and ideally integrate with either my Reolink NVR or an alternative solution such as Synology Surveillance Station or Blue Iris.

To do this, the doorbell would need to support ONVIF or RTSP, and unfortunately, there are not many options on the market that can do this.

Best Video Doorbell Cameras with ONVIF / RTSP Support

Reolink POE Video Doorbell

Key features:

  • Supports RTSP/ONVIF, Reolink NVR, On-device storage with microSD card (up to 256GB)
  • 5MP (2K) video resolution with 180-degree diagonal field of view
  • Night vision up to 30 feet
  • Person/motion detection alerts
  • Two-way audio communication
  • Weatherproof IP65 rating
  • Easy installation with existing doorbell wiring
  • Works with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa
  • Free Reolink app with live view, playback, sharing
  • Optional chime accessory available

The Reolink POE video doorbell is generally going to be the best option, especially if you are in the UK as the Amcrest AD410 needs to be imported from the USA.

The doorbell captures crisp 2K video with a wide field of view to see visitors from head to toe. It also features AI person detection, night vision, two-way talk, and on-device storage.

The POE connectivity will provide some challenges as it is a lot more work than wiring up to existing doorbell wiring and using WiFi.

One big selling point of this camera is the attractive price. It has an RRP of £110, but at the time of writing it, there was a £30 discount voucher, taking it down to just £80.

Amcrest AD410 Doorbell Camera

Key features:

  • 4MP video resolution (2560×1920)
  • 164° wide viewing angle
  • Night vision up to 16 ft
  • Built-in microphone and speaker for two-way audio
  • AI person detection up to 16 ft
  • MicroSD storage up to 128GB
  • IP65 weatherproof rating
  • ONVIF profile support for NVR integration
  • RTSP stream for Synology, Blue Iris compatibility
  • Customizable motion zones
  • Works with Google Assistant, Alexa

The Amcrest AD410 is a wired 2K video doorbell camera that connects to existing doorbell wiring for continuous power. It features a 4MP sensor for sharp 2560×1920 video, as well as night vision, person detection, two-way audio, and IP65 weather resistance.

With ONVIF and RTSP support, the Amcrest AD410 works well with NVRs, Synology NAS, Blue Iris software, and other surveillance platforms.

While this camera is often recommended to people wanting ONVIF and RTSP support, the Amazon reviews are not amazing. Furthermore, it is only available on Amazon US. You import it for a surprisingly small fee of $11.06, and the doorbell is $150. For UK buyers, the final price would be over £150, which makes it much less appealing than the Reolink.

Tuya J5 2K/3MP Smart Video Doorbell

Key Features:

  • 2K/3MP video resolution
  • 166° ultra wide angle lens
  • Wireless and battery-powered
  • PIR motion detection
  • Two-way audio communication
  • IP65 weatherproof rating
  • Works with Alexa and Google Home
  • Cloud storage and playback in Tuya app

This is a bit of an obscure option, as I can’t find much information on it. It is available from the Tuyaoem.com store and priced at $200. If you want ONVIF, then you need to select the CloudEge app version.

The Cloudedge app version does not support Google Home and Amazon Echo.

I have had confirmations that this works with:

  • Synology Video Surveillance Station: Sub-stream
  • Free VMS: Sub-stream
  • iSpy/Agent DVR: Sub-stream
  • BlueIris: Main stream, Sub-stream
  • Home Assistant: Sub-stream

I am not sure why it wouldn’t work with the mainstream. Overall, it is probably not worth it over the Reolink/Amcrest.

Hikvision DS-KV6113-WPE1(C)

PreviewProductRatingPrice
Hikvision DS-KV6113-WPE1 Hikvision DS-KV6113-WPE1 No ratings yet £118.00

Key Features:

  • 1/2.7” 2MP CMOS image sensor
  • 1080p full HD video resolution
  • 120° wide angle lens
  • Night vision up to 16 ft
  • Two-way audio communication
  • AI human shape detection
  • Works with Hik-Connect app
  • ONVIF profile S support for NVR integration
  • Continuous video recording to microSD card (up to 128GB)
  • IP66 weatherproof rating
  • 16-30V DC power input

This is designed to work with the Hikvision video intercom system, but it supports RTSP / ONVIF profile S and has both POE and WiFi. Priced at around £135, it doesn’t cost too much and the Hikvision Digital Technology DS-KH6320-WTE1 video intercom system that pairs up with it is only £150.

I probably wouldn’t buy this over the Reolink/ Amcrest if you just want ONVIF NVR recording, but if the intercom display appeals to you, then it is worth considering.

Alternative Options: Video Doorbells that record 24/7 without a cloud subscription

Depending on what you are trying to achieve, there are potentially alternative options to the above. If you want 24/7 recording to local storage, then the following options are worth considering:

Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4

Key Features:

  • 1080p full HD video resolution
  • 140° diagonal field of view
  • Night vision up to 16 ft
  • Two-way audio communication
  • HomeKit Secure Video support
  • Facial recognition for custom automations
  • Customizable ringtones/chimes
  • Local storage on microSD card (up to 512GB)
  • Weatherproof IPX3 rating
  • Wired or battery-powered (up to 4 months)
  • Included accessories: chime speaker, cables, screws

The Aqara Smart Video Doorbell G4 is a sleek, HomeKit-enabled video doorbell offering sharp 1080p video, useful detection features, and seamless integration with Apple smart home platforms.

With native HomeKit Secure Video, the G4 doorbell streams live video to Apple devices with useful alerts and optional iCloud recordings. It also enables facial recognition for custom “Welcome Home” scenes. The sleek, modern design looks great while capturing sharp 1080p footage day and night.

This lacks ONVIF, but it does support recording directly to a NAS with SMB or 24/7 recording to the microSD if it is hardwired.

I find it bizarre that they would support SMB and not RTSP/ONVIF, but it is a superb video doorbell camera and one of the few on the market that supports facial recognition.

Unifi G4 Doorbell / G4 Doorbell Pro

Key Features:

  • 1080p HD video resolution (G4 Doorbell) or 1600 x 1200 (G4 Pro)
  • 6m/20 ft night vision range
  • Integrated two-way audio communication
  • Motion/person/vehicle detection alerts
  • Works with UniFi Protect mobile app
  • Continuous and event-based recording options
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE) or battery-powered
  • Weatherproof construction (IP65 rating)
  • Arm/disarm modes and automations
  • G4 Pro additional features:
    • Secondary overhead “bird’s eye” camera
    • Customizable welcome screen
    • Improved low light performance

The UniFi G4 Doorbell and G4 Doorbell Pro are smart WiFi video doorbells designed to integrate with Ubiquiti’s UniFi Protect ecosystem for seamless whole-home security and automation.

To record footage, these need to be paired with one of the Unifi NVRs. The CloudKey+ is the most affordable option at £190. The UNVR is an attractive option at £290 with support for four drives (15) 4K cameras or (50) Full HD cameras and a 10G SFP+ uplink.

With sharp video, smart detections, and deep UniFi Protect integration, the G4 Doorbells provide a solid smart security option for Ubiquiti homes. The G4 Pro model builds on the experience with enhanced low light capture, overhead tracking, and custom welcome messages when visitors approach.

If you are an existing Unifi user or plan to upgrade your network with Unifi gear, then these are well worth considering. However, the high price and being limited to Unifi NVRs limit the appeal of these.

Eufy 2K Pro Wired Doorbell E8202

Features:

  • 2K resolution (2560×1920)
  • HDR imaging and distortion correction
  • 160° field of view
  • Night vision up to 30 feet
  • Human detection with facial recognition
  • Two-way audio communication
  • Local storage on microSD card (up to 256GB)
  • Wired connection (16-24 VAC)
  • IP65 weatherproof rating
  • Works with Eufy Security app
  • “Dual Motion Detection” zones
  • Package and pet detection (U.S. only)
  • Optional wireless chime accessory

I love Eufy, but they are quite inconsistent with supporting certain features such as HomeKit and RTSP.

The Eufy 2K Pro Wired Doorbell E8202 is a discontinued product launched in 2020 that seemed to be sold via BestBuy only. It supported 5 days of continuous recording and appears to be the best option they had for continuous recording. Unfortunately, it seems like your only chance of buying one would be used.
