‍The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the latest foldable to launch and is one of Samsung’s flagship products that blends smartphone and a tablet. With its innovative design and extensive features, it’s no surprise that it’s a favourite among tech enthusiasts. But, such a high-end device commands a high price, and it is not the kind of phone I would be comfortable carrying around without top-tier protection.

That’s where the Spigen Slim Armor Pro comes to play. This is one of the top models Spigen makes for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and it has been a popular option since the early Fold Fold models.

Each year, Spigen launch a new model that will fit the latest Galaxy Z Fold. It obviously requires some design tweaks to make sure it fits, but there are also incremental improvements for each generation.

Design & Build Quality

The Spigen Slim Armor Pro, designed specifically for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, sets the standard for quality and durability. The case offers multi-layered protection, using a combination of Polycarbonate and Impact Foam. Despite its sleek and stylish design, this case does not compromise on robustness or durability.

The key feature that sets the Spigen Slim Armor Pro apart from other phone cases is the full hinge coverage. This unique design aspect ensures that the most vulnerable part of your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is well-protected.

This is classed as a slim case, and in fairness, it doesn’t add too much bulk to the phone, but it is larger than other cases but with the added benefit of improved protection.

This is my first time using any foldable phone, and the cases obviously have quite a few differences from your standard phone.

Like all other Fold cases, it comes in two parts. The rear case is the main protective element, with the foam inlays for added protection and the hinge coverage. Where the camera module is, the case provides a large lip that runs flush to where the camera lens is. This should help protect the lens from scratches (and reduce the chance of breaks).

For the front, you have a smaller part that wraps around the edge of the front display. Just like the official Samsung cases and other third-party cases, the front protection has adhesive strips that helps keep it in place.

Unlike the official Samsung cases, Spigen provides replacement adhesive strips in case you swap out cases, and the strips lose their adhesiveness.

Installation

Installing the Spigen Slim Armor Pro on your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a breeze. The case is engineered to perfectly fit the dimensions of the phone.

The rear case has some adhesive strips as well as the front, but I don’t think these will make a huge difference to it staying in place. The rear case clips in nicely and easily.

I found it was easiest to slide the front case on and then apply some pressure to make sure it adhered.

The installation was self-explanatory and only took a few seconds.

The case is designed to be easily removable, making it convenient for those who frequently swap out their phone cases. In reality, I find it harder than normal to remove the case for all the Fold 5 cases. The front protection is stuck in place, so I found that I need to get my fingernails under the rim to pry it off. The back isn’t as hard, but it can still be a little reluctant to come off.

Screen Protector and Camera Protection

As this phone is so expensive, I wanted to minimise the chance of it being damaged.

The front display is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, so you probably don’t have to worry about it too much. The front case also sits slightly on top of the glass, providing some forward-facing drop protection.

However, I still bought a cheap screen protector that also came with a plastic lens protector.

The plastic protector fits OK but I found when I installed the front case again, it created some minior bubbles as the case pushed against the protector.

What I was surprised about was that the lens protector fitted perfectly into the recess of the case.

Spigen sells its own tempered glass protector, and I believe this is designed to fit with Spigen cases, which would have been a more sensible buy with this case.

In-Use

Once installed, the case does not interfere with the usage of the phone. The case is compatible with wireless charging, ensuring that you can charge your device conveniently without removing the case.

The raised edges around the screen and camera offer added protection, keeping your display and lenses safe from scratches when placed on a surface.

The case also incorporates Spigen’s Air Cushion Technology, which provides excellent drop protection. This technology aids in absorbing the impact from drops, thereby protecting your device from potential damage.

I had originally used the official Samsung standing case, which is a great case, but I was concerned about the hinge being exposed, which is why I ended up with this Spigen case.

I can’t say I have done any drop tests or had accidents yet, but I am confident that this is one of the best cases on the market for protecting the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Pros

  1. Robust Protection: The Spigen Slim Armor Pro offers robust, multi-layered protection for your Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. It features full hinge coverage, protecting the most vulnerable part of your device.
  2. Sleek Design: Despite its robust protection, the case maintains a sleek and stylish design, making it the perfect accessory for your phone.
  3. Compatible with Wireless Charging: The case is compatible with wireless charging, allowing you to charge your device without removing the case.
  4. Raised Edges: The raised edges offer added protection for the screen and camera against scratches.

Cons

  • Price: The Spigen Slim Armor Pro is a premium product, and its price reflects that. I’d say it seems disproportionately expensive when you look at other Spigen cases such as the Thin Fit Pro
  • Bulk: Some users might find the case a bit bulky due to the added hinge protection, which could slightly affect the device’s slim profile.

Price and Alternative Options

The Spigen Slim Armor Pro for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is priced at around £90. While this might seem steep for a phone case, it’s worth considering the level of protection it provides for your premium device.

If you’re looking for more affordable alternatives, Spigen also offers other cases, such as the Thin Fit Pro Clear and the Air Skin. These cases also provide solid protection for your device, albeit without the hinge protection feature.

The official Samsung cases look a bit nicer, I’d say the Standing Case is the best option as the Slim S Pen Case appears to have a lot of bad reviews, with people stating the pen falls out easily.

Currently, very few other companies are making cases and none of the ones I have seen appear to compete with the quality of Spigen.

Summary

The Spigen Slim Armor Pro for Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a worthy investment for those seeking high-level protection for their premium device. Its unique design, coupled with its robust build quality, ensures that your device remains safe from falls and bumps. While it comes with a premium price tag, the level of protection it provides justifies the cost. If you own a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Spigen Slim Armor Pro should be at the top of your list if you want the best protection possible.
