Elephone is one of the many budget brands from China that are hoping to copy the success of Huawei and Xiaomi. Like many other similar brands, they focussed on the low to mid-end of the market, offering premium looks but with MediaTek SoCs which are a lot more affordable the Qualcomm, but also less powerful.

However, there has been a trend to branch out into the premium end of the market. Oppo is the most notable company to do this recently with the launch of the Oppo Find X with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and slider camera costing £999 making it more expensive than most other flagships from leading companies. Previously to the Find X their flagship was the R15 (now superceded by the R17) which had a  Snapdragon 660.

Elephone looks like they may also be following the trend with the U2 Pro which looks like a phone that should cost close to £1k, but hopefully, it will be priced more sensibly.

Using a similar pop-up camera as the Vivo Nex the U2 Pro has a 6.42″ FHD+ double curved AMOLED display with a screen to body ratio of over 92%. The fingerprint scanner is also located under the screen similar to the Mate 20 Pro.

The pop-up camera houses a 16MP dual front camera while at the back there is a 12MP+5MP dual rear camera setup.

The Elephone U2 Pro will also feature a 3600mAh battery wireless charging and USB-C port. There is also NFC which is something that is missing on a lot of these cheap Chinese phones.

This will all be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset but at the moment there is no word on the memory or storage configurations but it is likely to be 6GB and 128GB.

The U2 Pro will be joined by a regular U2 model and a PX model. The Elephone U2 will a  MediaTek Helio P60 SoC, a slightly smaller screen of 6.26″ and a different camera configuration of a 16MP+2MP combo for the front and a 12MP+5MP+2MP combo for the rear.

The PX will lower the specification again using a MTK6762 SoC with a 6.34-inch HD+ display, and  3GB + 32GB memory.

The Elephone PX packs a 16MP+2MP dual camera set up at the front and rear. The front camera uses the popup design as well. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor onboard.

As usual, these won’t be available via official UK sources but you should be able to buy them from Banggood, Gearbest and similar sites.

At the moment it is listed on Gearbest for over £900 which is a crazy amount, but I suspect this is just a placeholder page
