Acer has confirmed that its flagship Predator Atlas 8 Extreme handheld gaming PC is now available to buy in the UK. The 8-inch Windows 11 device is on sale at Currys, both online and in selected Currys stores, as well as through the Acer Store, priced at £1,299.99. At the same time, Acer UK has opened pre-orders for the smaller Predator Atlas 7, which was first shown at IFA 2026 and starts from £899.99.

Acer positions the Atlas 8 Extreme as a portable alternative to a gaming desktop or laptop. The model on sale now pairs Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme processor with 24 GB of memory, a 1 TB PCIe Gen4 SSD and an 80 Wh battery. Pre-orders for cheaper Atlas 8 configurations are also open, with those models due in October 2026.

Processor and graphics

The Atlas 8 Extreme is built around the Intel Arc G3 Extreme, the top chip in Intel’s Arc G-series line-up for handhelds. According to Acer, it features up to 12 Xe3 GPU cores with hardware ray tracing. It also supports Intel’s XeSS 3 upscaling and Multi-Frame Generation, which use AI techniques to raise frame rates in demanding games. As with any frame generation technology, the gains will depend on individual game support, and generated frames do not reduce input latency in the way that natively rendered frames do.

Memory is LPDDR5X, and Acer’s offers page lists configurations of up to 32 GB. The retail model available now at Currys uses 24 GB with a 1 TB NVMe SSD.

Display

The screen is an 8-inch IPS panel with a 16:10 WUXGA resolution of 1920 x 1200. It runs at up to 120 Hz with variable refresh rate (VRR) support and has a quoted brightness of 500 nits. It is a touchscreen, covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with an anti-glare DXC coating. Acer also includes a tempered-glass screen protector in the box.

The 16:10 aspect ratio gives slightly more vertical space than a standard 16:9 panel, which can be useful for Windows applications and games with detailed interfaces. Running games at the native 1920 x 1200 resolution on integrated graphics will be demanding, so many titles are likely to rely on upscaling to reach higher frame rates.

Controls

One of the main hardware features is the use of full-size TMR (tunnel magnetoresistance) joysticks. These use magnetic sensors instead of the mechanical potentiometers found in many traditional controllers. Potentiometers can wear over time and cause stick drift, where the controller registers movement when the stick is not being touched. Acer claims the TMR sticks eliminate drift, offer zero dead-zone response and draw less power. TMR sensing is related to Hall-effect technology but is generally regarded as more precise and more power efficient.

The triggers are dual-mode. Physical toggles on the rear let players switch between a pressure-sensitive Hall-effect analogue pull, suited to racing games, and a short microswitch action that behaves more like a mouse click for shooters. The Atlas range also includes customisable rear macro buttons.

Cooling and battery

Cooling uses what Acer calls a Predator AeroBlade metal fan. It has 89 blades, each 0.1 mm thick, and uses an internal design Acer refers to as Vortex Flow. The company says this improves airflow by up to 10%, helping to reduce thermal throttling during extended play.

The battery is rated at 80 Wh. This is a large capacity for a handheld and matches the largest batteries currently used in Windows gaming handhelds. Acer has not published battery life figures, and real-world endurance will vary considerably depending on the game, power profile and screen brightness.

Across the Atlas line-up, Acer lists the following features:

Predator Atlas 7 now on pre-order

The Predator Atlas 7 (model PA07-151) is a smaller version of the same platform, aimed at players who want a lighter device for travel. Acer says it weighs under 750 g.

It uses a 7-inch FHD touchscreen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution in a 16:9 format. Like the larger model, it runs at up to 120 Hz with VRR, has a quoted peak brightness of 500 nits and uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The Atlas 7 can be configured with up to an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor. Acer also lists Intel Arc B390 graphics and up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory. Battery capacity goes up to 80 Wh depending on configuration. Full-size TMR joysticks are reserved for higher-tier models, while all versions have Hall-effect analogue triggers, rear macro buttons, the fingerprint sensor, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a UHS-II microSD reader and Wi-Fi 7.

Customers who pre-order a qualifying Predator Atlas handheld through participating UK retailers, including Currys, Scan, Very and the Acer Store, can register their purchase at uk-offers.acer.com/atlas/ to claim a free launch bundle. Acer values the bundle at more than £285. It includes:

The dock and controller will be most useful to those who plan to connect the handheld to a monitor or TV, while the extended warranty adds cover beyond the standard term.
