Features

  • Transparent body with RGB
  • GameSir Hall Effect sensing sticks: Delivering an anti-drift glide via the GameSir Hall Effect sensing sticks, GameSir T4k secures reliable, durable stick performance for gaming on PC, Switch and Android devices.
  • Precision-tuned Hall Effect analogue triggers: Using the similar precision-tuned tech with the GameSir G7 controller, the Hall Effect analogue triggers are also made to ensure the same travel distance always requires the same depth. When racing, you accelerate or brake with the natural knowledge of how much depth you need to press, thanks to the best-in-class consistent smoothness and precision provided.
  • Tactile face buttons, crisp yet cushioned: The tactile face buttons are specially tuned for fast and comfortable button presses. They have 5-million-click micro switches that reduce the travel distance to 0.6mm only and soft rubber pads that produce satisfying presses along with a crisp yet cushioned feel.

  • Built-in 6-axis gyro: GameSir T4k comes with 6-Axis gyro so that gamers can achieve or combine more motion inputs such as tilt and rotation, enabling more active and immersive interactions in Switch motion-control games.
  • Special Motion Aim/Steer tech: Motion control brings more fun and engagement to the game. Now with motion support on PC and Android devices, you can aim or steer in any game just by tilting the controller after a toggle in the GameSir T4k App software. So games played with T4k feel even more true to life.
  • 4 ultra-personalised light effects, perfectly tune the keyframe, speed, and brightness and the 5 light beads’ Change to suit your mood and style anytime. Meanwhile, the lights can also be programmed to be audio reactive via the GameSir T4k App software. This enables the T4k lighting to dance with the beats of the audio that is being played.
  • Multi-function M button for convenient control: Instantly control everything from the light effects to brightness and trigger mode to ABXY layout. There’s so much you can easily do with the M button.
  • 2 macro back buttons to map to a single button or a set of buttons. Act faster with the optional turbo function for the main buttons.
  • GameSir T4k App software. Map buttons, tweak D-pad diagonal, adjust sticks & triggers zone, configure vibration, fine-tune light effects, etc. Experience the special motion aim/steer feature for all games.

Design

I love the design of this controller. I am not normally a fan of RGB, but I love transparent designs, and I think the RGB works well with this. I also love how you can see the gyro motor spin up.

As the name suggests, this is a wired controller, but you get a good-length cable and don’t have to worry about latency or battery life issues. The controller also has a 3.5mm port allowing you to use wired earphones, and this supports voice.

The analogue sticks have an offset arrangement, similar to Nintendo. Then the four face buttons use the Xbox-style A/B/X/Y layout. You also get the normal set of shoulder buttons and triggers up top and a dedicated capture button on the front for screenshots or screen recording.

The underside of the case is textured to improve grip while retaining the transparent design.

Overall, this is a well-designed controller with excellent built quality.

Gamsir T4K APP & Teething Issues

To get the app to install properly, I had to run the installation file as an administrator.

With the controller plugged into my PC, I had issues with it intermittently disconnecting. However, clicking the update firmware button before it disconnects allows the controller to update, and the connection remains stable after this.

You don’t technically need the app to control some of the functions of this controller. Using the M button, and then a corresponding button press allows you to control the lighting, brightness, trigger mode and ABXY layout.

Hall Effect Sensing Sticks

One of the big selling points of this controller is the hall effect sticks instead of the normal analogue. These are designed to avoid issues with drift problems that became an issue with the Nintendo Switch.

Hall Effect sticks use magnets in them that move in relative to an electrical conductor. The voltage change that then occurs is converted to positional data to track the sticks’ movements. This, therefore, avoids the component wear and tear of an analogue stick and in theory, should never drift problems.

Hall effect sticks should also be more responsive as there is a smaller dead zone.

Hall effect sticks can have issues if the magnets lose some magnetism, this would then make them less accurate.

I have only had this controller a few weeks, so I can’t really comment on the durability side of things. I also wouldn’t regard myself as a very good gamer, so I am not sure I can appreciate the improved responsiveness of the sticks.

Performance

I have been happy with the ergonomics of this controller. I have quite small hands for my height, but I guess they are average-sized overall.

The textured grip on the rear works reasonably well. It doesn’t feel quite as grippy as rubber, but it is also less clammy.

In general, all the buttons, D-Pad and analogue sticks work well for me; just a couple of minor issues.

The shoulder buttons feel a little bit hollow with not a huge amount of resistance, but that does make them a bit more responsive.

I found the macro buttons felt like they were in an odd position, admittedly I haven’t used a controller with a macro button in a while, but I got used to the position eventually.

Apart from that, everything works perfectly.

I have not used this with the Nintendo Switch yet, so I have not tested the motion control, but it is a handy additional feature.

Price and Availability

The GameSir T4 Kaleid Transparent PC Controller is available now. Its official RRP is £41.99.

The GameSir T4 Pro is incredibly well-reviewed on Amazon. It is wireless and works with Android, Windows and the Switch. It also has a handy phone bracket.

The GameSir G7 Wired Game Controller is popular and is priced at £49.99. This controller is designed for PC and Xbox.

The 8bitdo Ultimate seems to be a popular alternative brand which works with Windows and Android. This is a wireless 2.4G Controller, and it only costs £39.

Overall

The GameSir T4 Kaleid is an excellent gaming controller that seems to be the logical evolution of the excellent GameSir G7.

The design is going to be a big selling point. I am normally indifferent to RGB, but I like the combination of the lighting and transparent case of this controller.

While I did have a few teething issues on the PC and with the T4K app, once I got it working, it was great to be able to customise so many elements of the controller.
