PlayStation VR2: A Glimpse of the Future of Gaming

The world of gaming is moving quickly. At first, it was 3D graphics, then photorealistic renderings that some suggested were real-world pictures, and now – virtual reality. While virtual reality has been dragging its feet and the experience has been less than ideal – with high eye strain among the most common issues. However, Sony is forging ahead with its latest generation headset to match the next-generation console, the PlayStation5.

Enter PlayStation VR2, a highly-anticipated new headset device that should deal away with some of the common gripes against VR sets and elevate the experience. Sony has already released a preview of what the PSVR 2 should look like, and the elegant design suggests comfort. The experiences on it will provide you with an exceptionally good pastime, just like online roulette for high rollers or traditional A-rated games from the best developers.

Elegant look and design are not all that the company is looking into, though, as the PSVR 2 is arguably going to come with a significant boost when it comes to specifications. Why is this important? Improvements coming ahead

Sony claims that there will be a real “sense of presence.” Anyone who has experienced some of the most recent VR sets in the past few years knows that while the experience can be immersive up to a point, your peripherals can still catch that edge where the real world begins which distracts.

Sony is of course using a lot of marketing language, which is designed to boost interest, such as “escape to worlds like never before.” There are notable improvements on the console design as well insofar as the joysticks are concerned (by joysticks here is meant controllers).

Essentially, the pair comes with a light corpus and ergometric handholds that make it easy to hold onto the controllers and not suffer injuries while playing. The headset is still hefty at the front with a lot of soft padding to fit onto the eyes-area nicely, but the back of the headset is similarly reinforced to transfer the weight back and balance it throughout the entire head.

The Sony PSVR 2 does indeed look like a great piece of art. The OLED display has the capabilities of running a total resolution of 4000 x 2040 pixels. This is better than the Oculus Quest 2, which is presently the most advanced such headset on the market. There is also the addition of a 110-degree field of view.

The purely technical capabilities of the headset are beefed up as well, featuring a 4K HDR experience, frame rates 90/120Hz. The headset further features 3D Audio and additional features that are able to elevate the experience further. The company is also tapping into Tobii AB products, which offer some of the best eye-tracking cameras which will ensure that the picture is moving in a realistic and immersive way.

On the Market

The question of course remains when the new headset is coming out on the market. The release date is set for 2022 but there are some significant challenges. The next version of the Sony VR is indeed a highly-anticipated event but disruptions in global supply are problematic, to say the least. Even then, the anticipated cost of the PlayStation experience is set at $499 although this cost will be subject to various deliberations. The basic set may be sold for that price, for sure, but a more advanced or unique copy of the set will go up in price as well.

Overall, the PSVR 2 is a delight and people who want to have the best virtual reality experience playing the game will definitely come to appreciate this expensive but very much worthwhile toy. For anyone looking to enjoy their VR experience in the best possible setting, the PSVR 2 is probably the best choice.
