Mathematics Behind Playing Baccarat

Mathematics Behind Playing Baccarat

One of the most popular card games with an easy learning curve, baccarat is a great choice for new casino players. The house edge for this game is no lower than 1%. While the casino certainly has a commission on baccarat bets, the game is much better for new players than poker or blackjack.

It’s the perfect blend of maths and chance. There are only a few main bets in baccarat, and you don’t have to complete hands to win against the banker. It is played between a banker and player, and according to baccarat rules, whoever has a count closer to 9 wins the game.

There are three popular variants of baccarat you can try online – Punto Banco, Baccarat Banque, and Chemin de Fear. All of them are based on the same rules with tiny differences.

The Math Behind Baccarat

To understand baccarat, you need to read some baccarat gambling guides in order to know that there are only three main bets available in the game:

  • Banker bet
  • Player bet
  • Tie bet

The absolute best bet you can make on an online baccarat table is the Banker bet. This means betting on the banker to win the round (coup). This bet comes with a relatively low house edge of 1.06%. The casino takes care of it, so you don’t need to calculate how much you stand to win or lose with the Banker bet.

If you want to put things into perspective, you win $95 on a $100 bet or $9 on a bet of $10. As we said, the casino takes care of this automatically, so you should see the possible return instantly when you place the Banker bet in online baccarat. Since the commission is automatically calculated, there’s really no reason why you shouldn’t bet on the Banker every time.

Then there’s the player bet. The house edge on this wager is 1.24%, so it’s a bit higher than the Banker bet. Of course, that’s not bad at all and won’t cost you a lot. You can expect to lose $1.24 every time you wager $100. Still, the Banker bet is the better option since the house edge is lower and you don’t have to do anything rather than placing the wager.

The final of the three main bets in online baccarat is the Tie bet. Whatever you do, you should never play it. This bet has a terrible house edge of 14.36%, which is worse than any other bet in baccarat, blackjack, and other casino games. For every $100 you wager on this bet, you stand to lose $14.36, which is a lot. That’s why you should skip it and save your money – you’re better off with the Banker or player bet in the long run.

Keep an Eye on Your Bets

When playing baccarat or any other casino card game online, you need to be aware that you’ll make the most out of each game with low bets. You can see the minimum bet on every baccarat table in online casinos, and you should stick to it.

Mathematical calculations say that you’re only going to be successful in the long run by going low on your bets. Apply this to baccarat, and it means placing low wagers on the Banker bet the whole time. Never play the tie bet, only wager on the Player sparingly, and you could make a bit of profit in the long run.
